Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from September 15th to October 15th. All 7th and 8th grade band students are invited to participate by performing a song at our annual Hispanic Heritage Night Celebration.
Each year Meadowcreek High School invites all 8th grade band students from both Lilburn MS and Radloff MS to join them for an evening of fun and music making at a home football game! Students will learn and memorize "stand tunes" to perform with the high school band students.
The University of Georgia Middle School Band Festival (MidFest) is a three-day event for middle school band musicians. The top students are nominated for participation by their director and will be selected by the MidFest staff based on the instrumentation needs of the festival bands, and the reported musical achievements of each student.
District Honor Band is made up of middle school band students from all over Gwinnett County. The students prepare audition material provided by the State of Georgia. Honor Band participants are selected based on their audition score. The Honor Band clinic is then held in February in Buford, GA. Students will be under the direction of a professional guest conductor for the weekend. It is a huge accomplishment and a fun experience for the students selected!
Large Group Performance Evaluation, or LGPE for short, is sponsored by the Georgia Music Educators Association. LGPE is a mandatory event for students to perform 3 selected and state approved songs for a panel of judges as well as a sight-reading experience. LGPE is an opportunity to promote the development of musical knowledge as expressed in performance through evaluation, advice, and suggestion.
6th grade band students can be nominated by their teacher to participate in District 13's First Year Honor Band. This event includes the top first-year players from around the district who will gather to perform music under the direction of a master teacher.
Every year we have a special field trip just for our 8th Grade Music students to award their accomplishments the past 3 years. Students have the opportunity to participate in Six Flags’ Music in the Parks Festival. Students will travel to Douglas County High School where we perform 2 songs for a competition. To top off our performance, we go to Six Flags immediately following the concert for a fun day in the park! An award ceremony takes place in the afternoon, where we received our first Superior Trophy in the Spring of 2024!
Each semester, students are expected to participate in an end of the semester concert. Students perform 2 - 3 songs with the A & B day class of their grade level. This concert is a great opportunity for students to showcase their hard work throughout the semester!
