Students will be able to explain the four types of productive resources, how taxes help pay for local goods and services, and the concepts of opportunity cost and interdependence.
We will be learning about civics and American government.
Students will be able to describe the elements of representative democracy and explain the importance of Americans sharing certain central democratic beliefs and principles.
We will discuss the geography of the United States.
Students will be able to locate major topographical features on a physical map of the United States and locate and describe the equator, prime meridian, and lines of latitude on a globe.
We will discuss the American Indian tribes across the United States.
Students will be able to identify the regions of the American Indian tribes and how they used resources in their environment.
We will discuss the Age of Exploration and the impact of European explorers. This will be split into two units.
Students will be able to describe the exploration of Christopher Columbus, Vasco Nunez de Balboa, Hernando de Soto. In the second part of this unit, students will be able to describe the exploration of John Cabot, Henry Hudson, and Jacques Cartier.
