SCE FAQs

May I complete my SCE in the summer?

No, your Senior Capstone Experience is a yearlong experience.  

For traditional capstone, this means you must work on on the same project/at the same internship placement for at least 12 weeks during the fall semester and at least 12 weeks during the spring semester. 

While you can intern the summer before your senior year to accrue hours towards your overall Pathway total, you can only count up to 50 hours during the summer.  Details about summer hours will be shared soon.

Can I continue my JFE internship for my SCE?

Yes!  Some students continue their JFE internship through their senior year for their SCE.  Other students want to try something new during senior year so that they have two different experiences.  Something to think about!

How do I choose a good SCE for me?

Just as you did for your JFE, you need to be intentional in the planning of both your capstone and your academic year. Below are  important, guiding questions you need to ask yourself and discuss with your family:

• What are your future college and career plans? 

  • engineering, medicine, technology, research, humanities, undecided?

• What are reasonable expectations to have for a capstone experience?

  • Think about your interests and aspirations; sometimes you have to find something adjacent to what you really want to do.

  • You also might learn important skills with an internship in a field that isn't necessarily what you will continue in at college and beyond.

• Do you have reliable transportation to and from an internship site? 

  • If not, do you need to apply for an on-campus option? 

• What do your want my senior year to look like in terms of rigor and wellness? 

• What other commitments do you have outside of school?
