As current 8th graders prepare for the transition to high school, we are pleased to share information with you regarding Carnegie Units earned this year.
All 8th graders are currently enrolled in one or more of the high school courses offered at Dacula Middle, you have the option to accept or decline a Carnegie Unit Credit for these courses, which can be applied to his or her high school transcript. The Carnegie Unit will be recorded on your child’s high school transcript, and your student will receive high school credit for successfully completing this course.
When determining whether or not to accept the Carnegie Unit for a course, it is important to consider your child's teachers' recommendations for high school courses taught this year in 8th grade, specifically in the area of Mathematics. For example, if your child was recommended for Algebra I in high school, you SHOULD NOT elect to take the Carnegie Unit Credit for Algebra I in 8th grade, as your child will earn the credit by successfully completing the course next year in 9th grade. If your child successfully passed any of the courses below, then he or she is eligible to earn a Carnegie Unit towards high school graduation:
Algebra 1
Accelerated Algebra 1
Physical Science
Spanish 1
Foundations of Engineering/Technology
Introduction to Digital Technology
Introduction to Business and Technology
We are excited to share a fast and convenient method for parents to select their choice(s) for accepting or declining eligible Carnegie Unit credits electronically! The application process is open now. Parents must complete the following:
To begin, parent(s) must log into the Parent Portal or the ParentVUE mobile app to make their selections:
1. Log into your Parent Portal account, or the ParentVUE mobile app.
2. Click on 8th Grade Carnegie Credit option from the menu on the left-hand side.
3. Click on the 8th Grade Carnegie Credit Form.
4. Click on the Go To Decision Form button at the bottom.
5. Select I DO or I DO NOT for each approved course your child took this year. This screen displays high school level coursework that your child took while in the 8th grade this year.
- If you select, I DO, you are requesting that your child receive a Carnegie Unit for the selected course. Your child will be unable to take this course again in high school.
- If you select, I DO NOT, you are requesting that your child not receive a Carnegie Unit for the selected course. Your child may be required to take this class again in high school in order to meet graduation requirements.
6. Type your signature and click Done. Parents can review their choices by closing the window and going back to the ParentVUE page and clicking on Documents option from the menu on the left-hand side. The completed form is available for your viewing.
