Difference

By: Annie Hoang

A white flower amongst the red flowers

Always finds herself different than the others

Yet she makes no effort

To fit herself in the shrubs.

A great quantity of numbers

It’s larger than another

Subtract the excessive digits

The difference returns to zero.

Everything seems similar to each other

But it’s slightly different from one another

Being able to spot the differences

Makes oneself become unique to the others.

United together is a sacred thing

People try to fit themselves in the group

But acknowledging their differences

Helps them realize how diverse they are.

Full

By Barbara Cortes-Arguello

And if love be nourishment,

how long do I starve for?

If I can not tell you are mendacious,

can I still become full?

Or do I disappear-

Questioning what affection was false

Songs

By: Alyssa Milling

The skies were clear, not a cloud in sight, and completely blue.

The grass is a vivid green, lively with the almost-

Microscopic cities that host insects of all kinds.

The skies themselves are a background,

Against which many birds soar.

Whilst in flight the songbirds sing again and again,

And the mockingbirds echo their songs,

Until all notes reverberate off the forest,

Reaching us the best way they know how,

Through the years and far between.

Yet how were we to know that they sang to us?

The ones who muzzled the caged bird,

As it cried out to join the others for their song.

The song that we have ignored for many years.

Our vanity and our ego took ahold,

Blocking the very sounds, the same

That would lead us to peace.

Rain

By: Annie Hoang

People associate rain with sadness

But they don’t know

That rain can be anything

Rain is life

She makes plants lush

She maintains life for all living things

Rain is joy

She connects people to one shelter

And lets them enjoy precious moments

Rain is peace

She gives people quiet moments

To reflect themselves and make the right decisions

Rain is a companion

There’s nothing better than

Sitting by the window

Watching the rain fall

Or perhaps

Getting cozy in bed

With a book

And listening to her whisper.

Outgrow Me

By Barbara Cortes-Arguello

Outgrow me, outgrow me

While you still have time to flourish

Outgrow me, outgrow me

While the hourglass has only just turned

Outgrow me, outgrow me

While I’m rational- understanding

Let us be vulnerable,

Discuss religion

You a non-believer

And I, a worshipper

Let us discuss faith,

The shell of a man you can’t embrace

Not when they never show you grace

Let us discuss love,

You a hopeless romantic

And I, a hopeful romantic

Let us discuss selflessness,

Your downfall

My gratitude

Let us be vulnerable

-discuss our mistakes

You follow me blindly into a church-

filled with criticism, religion

You forget your beliefs

-even if only for an hour-

Only to hold your friend’s hand as they grieve

Even if it burns...you hold me

Outgrow me, outgrow me

For to match your love-

I don’t believe myself capable

Outgrow me, outgrow me

For you’re losing yourself

Outgrow me, outgrow me

Quickly now!

Outgrow me

Outgrow me

Only- do it now!

While there’s still time for you to grow

Outgrow me, outgrow me

I can be rational

I’ll be understanding

Chemistry Haiku

By: Hayner and Brandon Ho

Chemistry makes love,

essential bonds to life that,

brings us together

AP Chem Extra Credit Poem

By Emily Whitehead and Carolina Taylor

Sometimes I feel all over the place,

Then I remember all the important bonds,

All the seemingly empty space,

Held together by forces in the beyond.

The very air I breathe, oxygen,

The necessary reactions going on in my body,

All held together by something smaller than a pin,

Some of these forces are a little naughty,

Chemistry is the necessary force of life I study,

Often times I now cry.

My thoughts are getting muddy,

But it’s okay, it's just a science, and I’m just a guy.
