To meet the requirement of the major design experience and prepare for the ABET accreditation, we realize that design components, as required by ABET, are the core and key student outcomes of our program. The project structure includes the following:
The project must include the design of a system, a process, or a component.
Each project is carried out by a team of 3-5 students.
The design must follow industrial design standards, codes, and/or specifications.
The project must have real design constraints, such as economic, environmental, and boundary constraints, etc.
The project must present all the design criteria and assumptions.
The complete project must include all actual details of engineering design calculations.
Professional engineering design deliverables– such as prototypes, design diagrams, engineering drawings, etc.—are the required outcomes of every capstone project.
The completion of the project will include a project summary and oral presentations.
a process of devising a system refers to designing and optimizing processes or systems to achieve efficient production, quality assurance, and cost-effectiveness. These systems involve analysis, creativity, and application of manufacturing engineering principles to meet production goals and constraints.
a process of devising component involves designing individual parts or elements used in machines, tools, or products to meet specific functional and production requirements. Each component is designed to integrate into a broader system while meeting manufacturing constraints such as cost, material availability, and ease of production.
a process of devising process refers to creating or optimizing methods for producing products or components. Each devised process incorporates considerations for efficiency, sustainability, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with engineering standards and customer requirements.
