The William Allen White Library (WAWL) understands that it can be difficult to move your courses to using free textbooks. That’s why we are providing the opportunity to utilize eTextbooks in your course at no cost to your department or your students! The Zero-Textbook-Cost / Low-Textbook-Cost (ZTC/LTC) Movement is a program that operates on a first-come, first-serve basis and will only apply to eTextbooks that we can acquire with unlimited, simultaneous user access. It may not be OER, but it will be FREE or incur a minimal (LTC- low textbook cost) to your students. Not all titles are available, but contact your liaison librarian about the texts you are interested in so we can check the possibilities of digital availability for you.
The William Allen White Library (WAWL) is excited to help ESU as it works toward reducing the cost of classes for students. In addition to providing faculty support in response to the Class Resource Affordability Initiative Grant (CRAIG), we also provide assistance to any instructor who is interested in utilizing class resources that will be free for their students.
The following resources, initiatives and assistance are currently being provided by the library. For more information on any of these, contact your Department’s Library Liaison or the Reference Desk at Libref01@emporia.edu or by calling (620) 341-5207.
Springer Nature is our primary resource for providing eBooks and eTextbooks for faculty to include in their courses. ESU does not currently subscribe to the complete access to Springer Nature, but we have purchased a wide variety of titles which we encourage you to use as you see fit.
To search the list of titles, click the link above for access to the Springer Nature database (or access via the library's A-Z Database List). We also have a spreadsheet of titles we currently have access to, which is available to preview here:
EBSCO's Faculty Select is a single, easy-to-use interface, where you can easily find and access quality Open Educational Resources (OER) to support your courses, and search and request access to relevant ebooks from top academic publishers. Faculty Select allows you to download a book to share with your students for free and make changes to the text (if the license allows it). Contact your librarian for guidance on limiting to OER only or verifying licensing restrictions. Search availability from the library's database page.
