Library Creative Space

The Library Creative Space includes media/audio equipment and software to provide resources for students and faculty who are interested in recording audio (voiceovers for presentations, podcasts, sound effects, etc.) and/or video projects.

The room is available on the 2nd Floor of the library, Room 209 H. Currently, our room is only available for 2 people max. This room is designed specifically for media production projects. If you need a room for individual or group study, please use another space in the library designated for that purpose.

To use our room, you must agree to our Library Creative Space Policy. By submitting your reservation, you are automatically agreeing to our policy.

For questions or assistance, please contact Alex Mosakowski, amosakow@emporia.edu.

Common Questions:

What Do I Do If I Need Help?

Booking a reservation only books the room and equipment itself. If you think you will need help with the equipment or software in the room (or) help with your project, you can make arrangements with the media room supervisor, Alex Mosakowski at amosakow@emporia.edu or ask the librarian at the information desk (2nd Floor) for help (which can be limited depending on who is staffed at the desk).

There are also several tutorials for how to use our software or set up equipment available on our Library Creative Space Guide.

I'm a Professor who would like to use this room for a class....

If you are wanting to use this for a class or with a large group, please contact Alex Mosakowski, amosakow@emporia.edu for assistance.

Is there a Cost to use the rooM?

There is no cost to use the room, software, or equipment. However, if there are any damages to the equipment or if checked-out equipment is returned late (or damaged), fines will apply. The person whom the studio is checked out to will be held financially responsible for any damages to the room, equipment, furniture, etc. Fees/fines assessed for damage will be applied to the patron's Library Account and billed through Emporia State University. There is also a late fee if the room key is returned late or lost.

What Equipment is Available?

What Equipment Do I Bring?

The Library Creative Space will not store media or audio files for you. We do not have the storage space on our machine to host/store these large files. You will be expected to use your own SD card or relocate the file to your personal USB or cloud storage. You are also expected to provide your own SD/memory cards when using our camera, camcorder, or Go Pro.

Can You Bring Your Own Equipment?

Yes! As long as your equipment is compatible with the equipment in the Library Creative Space, you are welcome to bring your own camera, lighting, microphones, etc. However, we will not store this equipment for you. All the equipment you bring into the room must leave the room with you at the end of your reservation. Personal software may not be allowed on the iMac or Windows machines. If there is a program you'd like us to consider installing, please contact Alex Mosakowski at amosakow@emporia.edu.

How Long Can I reserve the room?

  • The room can be reserved for three hours at a time.

  • Reservations are only available during regular building hours. Reservation time can not exceed our building closing time. Therefore, if you book a time at 4 PM and the library is scheduled to close at 5 PM, your reservation time will end at 5 PM.

  • Reservations must be made 24 hours in advance via our booking link.

  • Note: Our reservation booking time only reserves the space and equipment itself. If you need additional assistance with the equipment and/or software, you will need to make arrangements with Alex Mosakowski (amosakow@emporia.edu) or contact the librarian at the information desk (which can be limited).

Can I Bring Food/Drinks Into the Room?

No food or open containers are allowed in the room. Some drink containers are allowed as long as they have closed, no-spill tops.

Is the Room Sound Proof?

We are still working on soundproofing this room. Until then, your voice and recordings may be heard beyond the walls if you are loud enough. However, the 2nd Floor of the WAW Library is a Collaborative Zone, under certain circumstances, you may be asked to reduce the volume of your performance. Therefore, please utilize headphones to listen to your recordings and playback.

Who owns the rights to my produced projects?

The media and audio projects created in this room are owned by the individuals who create the projects. Emporia State University and the Libraries + Archives do not claim any copyright or ownership of projects created or recorded in this space. Therefore, the creator of the project is also responsible for procuring permission to use any recorded or edited material that is subject to copyright.
