To celebrate the visit of Professor Paul Milgrom, Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences, to the Tokyo Conference on Market Design 2025, a panel discussion will be held featuring Professor Milgrom alongside two leading researchers in the field from the University of Tokyo – Professor Fuhito Kojima and Professor Michihiro Kandori, both of whom have close academic ties with him.
This event is open not only to those already interested in market design, but also to a broader audience. Participation from both graduate and undergraduate students would be welcome.

Awarded the 2020 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences
Born in 1948, Professor Paul Milgrom received his Ph.D. in Business from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1978. He previously taught at Northwestern University and Yale University, and has been a Professor of Economics at Stanford University since 1987.
In 2020, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences jointly with Professor Robert Wilson for “improvements to auction theory and inventions of new auction formats.”
Professor Milgrom is renowned for his pioneering research across a broad range of microeconomic theory, particularly in market design and the theory and application of auctions.

Professor Michihiro Kandori is widely known for his pioneering research on social norms, evolutionary game, and repeated games. He became the first Japanese researcher to be elected President of the Game Theory Society, the leading international association in the field of game theory, serving from 2022 to 2024. He is a recipient of the Nakahara Prize from the Japanese Economic Association, a life fellow for the Econometric Society, and a Foreign Honorary Member of the American Economic Association. He previously served as the Vice Director of The University of Tokyo Market Design Center. Professor Milgrom was his doctoral advisor at Stanford University.

Professor Fuhito Kojima is a world-leading researcher in the study of matching mechanisms, addressing pressing social issues such as women's social advancement, alleviating physician shortages in rural areas, and reducing the number of children on daycare waiting lists. He has published extensively in top international academic journals and has received numerous awards, including the Nakahara Prize from the Japanese Economic Association. Prior to joining the University of Tokyo, he was a Professor at Stanford University, where he was both a colleague and a research collaborator of Professor Milgrom.
