In order to prevent the frequent occurrence of traffic accidents involving the elderly, we are conducting research on automated driving technologies, and advanced driving support systems that utilize these technologies. We are especially engaged in the research of external environment recognition technology, digital maps, risk prediction of driving environment, human-machine interaction technology, and user acceptability. We are also engaged in user evaluation experiments using driving simulators and field experiments using experimental vehicles.
In order to support the social participation of elderly people with declining motor and sensory functions, we are working on the research of personal mobility, which is a single-seater electric mobility vehicle. Specifically, we are conducting research on technologies for recognizing the external environment in pedestrian spaces, vehicle control technologies, and HMI for passengers.
