Hiroshi OHASHI

Hiroshi Ohashi, Professor at the Graduate School of Economics and the Graduate School of Public Policy (GraSPP), and Vice President of the University of Tokyo, has taught both in Canada and Japan since his finishing Ph.D. in economics at Northwestern University in 2000. He taught as Assistant Professor (2000-2003) at Sauder School of Business, the University of British Columbia, Canada, and as Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Economics and at the GraSPP at the University of Tokyo (2003-2012). He served the Dean of the GraSPP  (2000-2022) and has been a Vice President of the University (2022-present). He also held a visiting professorship in Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitat Munchen, Germany. His areas of research include industrial organization, competition policy and international trade, and he has published widely in academic refereed journals. He serves a faculty fellow and program director at the Research Institute of Economy, Trade & Industry (RIETI) at the Ministry of Economy and International Trade (METI) and served a chief researcher at Competition Policy Research Center at Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) and a head research officer at the National Institute of Science and Technology Policy (NISTEP) at the Ministry of Education, Sports and Technology (MEXT). He was awarded the Enjyoji Jiro Prize from Nikkei Newspaper in 2012, the Ishikawa Prize from Japanese Economic Association in 2014, and Nikkei Economy Books and Culture Award in 2021.
