Time commitment: Choir at the middle school level is a class. We are usually able to accomplish learning everything during class time, but occasionally we may have an after-school dress rehearsal before a concert. Concerts are mandatory for students' grade.
Uniform: All 6th Grade Choir students are expected to purchase the official RMS Choir shirt, non-“holey” jeans, black dress pants and closed-toe black shoes. *Students will wear either jeans or black dress pants depending on the concert.*
Supplies Needed: All supplies are included in the choir fee.
Fee: The mandatory class fee is $25.00 and includes a student's binder, pencil, highlighter, and some sheet music. There are optional additional costs for trips and competitions if a student chooses to attend those. If financial assistance is needed, please contact Mrs. Sager
Choir Classes: We offer two types of choirs for 6th graders, 6th Grade Tenor-Bass Choir (typically boys) and 6th Grade Treble Choir (typically girls) where students focus on advanced vocal technique, stage presence, and performance skills. The development of sight-reading skills and music literacy are a foundational part of our class and help to prepare students for varying performances and contests throughout the year.
Performances: The choirs put on a fall, winter, and spring concert. Students also have many other performance opportunities, including community and school-based performances, choir trip competitions, solo & ensemble competition, and 6th grade Honor Choir. Private Voice lessons are also available for a fee during students’ choir class.
Other fun stuff: Many fun events are planned for choir students to get to know each other better and have a good time. Examples from this past year include: a choir contest with celebration at Main Event! 7th and 8th graders have the opportunity to perform at a contest at a water park!
