Audition Information

auditions

This year, we are asking that students reserve a time prior to auditions using this form and sign the Audition Contract. In order to use it, students must be logged in to their g.dentonisd.org account. Auditions will run from 4:00 - 5:30.

Students may stay after school and leave after their audition. Students MUST be picked up no later than 5:30 in the parent drop-off area across from the athletic fields.

Interested in technical theatre? Fill out the application to participate here. You will also need to fill out the Audition Contract.

All of the theatrical activities at McMath require an audition (Advanced Theatre, extra-curricular theatre, variety show etc.). The audition should be approached as a necessary part of an actor's toolkit. Being prepared is essential. There are a couple of different types of auditions and below, you will find some information about what is expected at McMath.

Auditions are held in the Spring for the Advanced Class, students entering McMath in the fall semester (7th and 8th Grades only) may audition at the discretion of the director.

Musical Audition: Prepare 1 memorized monologue not to exceed 1 minute and 30-60 sec of a song. The song can be from a musical or popular song. Your slate (introduction) should include your full name, and the title of the play and song.

Acting Audition: Prepare 2 memorized monologues not to exceed 1 minute each. Your slate (introduction) should include your full name, and the title of the plays. The slate should look something like this:

Hi! My name is Chris Taylor and I will be performing a monologue from Hamlet by William Shakespeare, playing the role of Claudius and a monologue from Bobby Wilson Can Eat His Own Face by Don Zolidis, playing the role of Coach Borney.

There should be only a brief transition between introduction and monologue, and those transitions should not be done with verbal remarks but be accomplished with a change in position, voice, etc.

There may be a short interview following the performance.

If you can sing, please prepare 16 measures of a contemporary musical theatre selection or pop song (only school appropriate please) to sing at your audition. You may use a backing track or sing acapella, an accompanist will not be provided.

OAP - Peter/Wendy by Jeremy Bloom
