Special Information about Academic Contests
Ready Writing will be limited to 2 students per school. (Email to see if more than 2 is possible. sschreiner@dentonisd.org ). Event will be hand written only. Contestants will use paper and pen (they must provide their own).
Journalism events will be on computers and will print their entries. Event will use computers and printers provided by RHS. Contestants may provide their own computers and printers or they may compete using paper and pen (they must provide their own). Contestants will use Microsoft Word and may not access the internet while competing. Contestant assumes all risks with provided computers. Please see complete computer rules here.
Computer Science - Contestants will need to bring their own laptops and will submit the code on USB flash drives. Contestants must bring at least 1 flash drive - 2 flash drives are recommended. There should be 4 contestants. They must all take the written test but only 3 contestants can compete in the programming test.
Current Events - No team may have more than four members. Schools may enter up to two teams.
Coaches are expected to help grade all academic contests, including ready writing and journalism events.
Contests may be closed when maximum capacity is reached in a contest room. Please have entry numbers as close to the actual number of entries as possible.
Registration Process and Fees for Non-speaking Events
By February 5: Submit your registration paperwork via email to sschreiner@dentonisd.org with the number of students who will be taking each test so we can prepare the proper number of tests and testing rooms.
Payment must be made on or before the day of the event. No refunds will be issued. Make checks payable to Ryan High School UIL. The registration form should be usable as an invoice, but if you need an itemized invoice, please email Sarah Schreiner at sschreiner@dentonisd.org.
Add/Changes will be accepted day of. No refunds. Adds will be invoiced after the event.
