Room 609
Attendance:
If your child is absent, please fill out the school absence form at
https://forms.dentonisd.org/Forms/absence-note
as soon as possible to avoid an unexcused absence. There is a tab within the form to upload any documents/doctor notes.
Birthdays:
If you would like to send a birthday treat with your child on their birthday, feel free to do so. All treats must be store bought and individually wrapped. Please be sure to ask about classroom food allergies. You may send the treat to school with your child or drop it off in the office. We will celebrate this special day as a class together. We will not have parties in the room for birthdays. These treats will be eaten in the afternoon. Birthday party invitations can be distributed at school, if all children are invited.
Communication:
Feel free to contact me whenever you have a question or concern. Email or Dojo are a great way to reach me, but please know I may not respond immediately because I am actively engaged with the students. If you need something immediately please call the office at 940-369-1800 and they will be able to reach me.
Classroom Management:
We encourage the children to grow and learn from their own actions. To encourage appropriate behavior, learn self-control and build self-concept, they will be guided to respect themselves and their classmates. We work hard to make our classroom a positive and safe place. Our classroom is a small community where teamwork and good relationships are expected. We will spend time learning and practicing class procedures. If a student is having difficulties following these guidelines, we may:
Ask questions to promote thinking and responsibility
Encourage students to solve their own problems
Offer choice within limits
Model problem solving skills
Apply consequences that best fit the situation
Students are able to earn a star each day. They will be able to use their stars to shop in our treasurer box on Friday. Students need 4 stars to shop each week. I give warnings throughout the day. If a student refuses warnings more than three times, they will not receive a star that day, and I will send a note home. Please sign and return the note to me the following day.
Weekly Folders:
Weekly folders will come home from school on Friday. These folders will include student work from the week. Please be sure to discuss your child’s work with them. You may keep the work at home to display or treasure. Please do not be alarmed if there is not a lot of work in their folder every week, because we do place some class work in your child’s portfolio or display it around the classroom and hallway. Be sure to empty the folder and return it to school on Monday morning.
Nap Time:
We will provide an hour nap/rest time for your child. The room will be dark, and soft music will be playing. Please send a blanket and a small pillow with your child's name on it. Blankets and pillows will be kept at school during the week and sent home on Fridays to be washed. Students will need a backpack large enough to hold all items brought to school. Please be sure to send bedding back the following week.
Change of Clothes:
Leave a change of clothes, in a Gallon size Ziplock-bag, in your child's backpack. Please check every day to see if something needs to be replaced. Be sure that you are encouraging your child to be independent in the restroom. We will ask them to take care of themselves in the case of an accident. Also, keep in mind the weather, and change out clothing as needed.
Lunch:
Our grade level eats lunch from 10:30-11:00. Be sure to send a labeled water bottle with your child every day. Please have your child practice opening containers at home. Denton ISD Child Nutrition Information
Newsletter:
A weekly newsletter will be emailed every Friday to keep you informed about what is happening in our grade level.
Parties:
We will have a Holiday Party, Valentine’s Day Party, and an End of the Year party. The room coordinator will organize the food and activities for the parties. They will also coordinate volunteers.
Visitors and Volunteers:
All volunteers require a criminal background check. Please get this done as soon as possible because it can take time. I don’t want you to miss out on anything. This will also be needed to chaperone our field trip.
Recess:
Pre-K will play outside for twenty minutes twice a day. Students should wear shoes appropriate for playing outside. Our playground is shaded, but, if you would like, you may apply sunscreen on your child before school in the morning.
Please make sure your child wears shoes that they are able to tie or fasten on their own. This is for safety reasons and encourages independence. I know this can seem silly, but tying 22 shoelaces all day long would be a lot for us to keep up with. We appreciate your help with this.
Arrival/Dismissal:
Pre-K students arrive at school at 7:30. Pre-K students will dismiss at 2:50. Pre-K arrival and dismissal will both be in front of the school at the doors near the music room. If you have an older student, have them meet us in the hallway by the music room. Please do not send your child to our classroom or through any other doors, as we do not have anyone to assist them. If your child is a walker, please bring them to us at the car Pre-K drop off in the morning. The walkers will be released at the end of the day with the other walkers, coming out the doors towards Crownover in the pk/k/1st hallway. Thanks for your help with this.
Transportation:
If you are picking your child up early, you must sign them out through the office. The primary concern of all staff is the safety and security of your child. If your child is a car rider, please help them learn their car tag number. If your child has a change in transportation please send a note, or call the office, before 2:00 pm, indicating the change. They will let us know about the change in transportation. Since we are actively engaged at all times with the students, we may not see an email indicating a change.
