2. If a student is absent the day of a test/quiz, the student will take the test/quiz upon return to school.
Reassessment policy: Quizzes will not be reassessed except at my discretion. Please see the district reassessment policy for details on requirements to reassess. Click Here and DHS Addemdum Here
Cell Phones/Electronic Devices: In one word: DISTRACTION. If you have a cell phone out in class without my permission, I will confiscate the device and you will pick it up at the AP’s office at the end of the day. No excuses. If your parent/guardian needs to contact you for an emergency, they may call the school and be connected to my classroom.
Tardies: You must be in your seat and ready to begin when the 5 minute passing period is up. Unexcused tardies will result in:
Expectations of the Student:
· Students will complete all assignments assigned. Homework will not be taken as a grade, but will still be given as an assignment and checked daily in class. Homework is extra practice for students to master the necessary objectives for the course. Completing homework will improve and strengthen the students’ understanding of the Algebra concepts. Completed homework may be used on quizzes given in class.
· Students will work collaboratively throughout the year and are expected to behave appropriately at all times. Respect for personal and public property will be practiced. Any action that is disrespectful, intentionally distracts other students from learning, or violates the student code of conduct, will warrant consequences.
· Students are expected to take notes over the material in this class and to read assignments carefully. In the case of absence, it is YOUR responsibility to obtain any handouts and assignments missed and to complete them in a timely manner.
· Students are expected to seek help in class by asking questions when you do not understand a topic. If further understanding is needed, you are expected to seek help through tutoring. If no attempt is made, I will have no sympathy and no choice but to give you the grade you deserve.
I believe with all my heart that each of you can excel in Algebra I this year. The formula is simple: be present, do your work, come to tutorials if you need help-don’t wait, and maximize your class time by being prepared and ready! I love math, I love to teach, and I absolutely love Algebra I! We are going to have a GREAT year! Remember math is progressive and if you don’t comprehend the current concept you will have a difficult time understanding the next one. With that in mind…Please Please, Please ask questions in class. I would rather take an extra 10 minutes on one problem to be sure you “got it” then move on to the next topic with only half the class following me. Asking question is OK! I promise!
