Attendance
School begins promptly at 7:40. It is very important that children arrive at school on time each day. Children that arrive at school before 7:30 a.m. will wait in the cafeteria until 7:30 a.m. when they are dismissed by an adult to come to class. If your child is needing breakfast from the cafeteria, please plan to drop them off at 7:30 so that they have time to eat their breakfast. Dropping them off effects them being able to start their instruction on time.
Dismissal
We dismiss at 3:00 p.m.
Buses will load at the front of the school, walkers will exit at the back of the school, and car riders will be picked up using car tags on the parking lot side of the school.
Walker- students are expected to walk directly home. Students are not allowed to wait for siblings or parents on the playground.
Car rider- please make sure they know their car tag number.
If your child has a change in transportation, a note or a phone call (before 12:00 pm) indicating the change will be needed. For safety purposes, please refrain from picking your child up between 2:20-2:45 as we are at recess. This will ensure the safety of our recess environment.
If someone other then you will be picking up your child, a written note will be required for that as well. If you are picking up your child early or need to get them from the parent pickup without having your car tag, you must sign them out from the office. The primary concern for all staff is the safety and security of your child.
Take Home Folder
A red folder will be used for a daily Take Home Folder & Friday Folder. This folder will be sent out each Friday afternoon containing your child's work from the week. The folder will contain any information the school or I would like to inform you of. There is also a side for graded papers. Please keep all the papers, and return the folder on the following Monday.
Snacks
We will have a daily afternoon snack. Please send one dry healthy snack with students (no cookies, drinks or candy please). The snack should be a dry snack and nothing that requires a fork or spoon.
Birthdays
We will celebrate birthdays with enjoying a good book! Your child can bring a wrapped book to school for their birthday. This can be a new book that your child has never seen or one of their favorite books from home. We will unwrap the book together to reveal the title and I will then read the book to class. Your child may choose to read the book to their class if they wish. Please do not send food to school to celebrate your child's birthday.
Invitations will only be allowed to be passed out at school, if each child in the class gets an invitation. If you would like to invite individual students, please contact their parents to see about getting them an invitation.
Second Grade Homework
We will have reading homework to work on during the week to support the work we do as readers in class. Mrs. Henigan will send math homework home as needed throughout the year.
Second Grade Team
The 2nd Grade team of teachers is a PLC (Professional Learning Community). We are committed to working together to achieve our collective goals. We develop a collaborative culture with our students through the development of high-performing teams. Students will be going to other second grade teachers for individualized intervention of an essential 2nd grade skill.
