Procedures and Classroom Expectations

Attendance

School begins promptly at 7:40. It is very important that children arrive at school on time each day. Children that arrive at school before 7:30 a.m. will wait in the cafeteria until 7:30 a.m. when they are dismissed by an adult to come to class.  If your child is needing breakfast from the cafeteria, please plan to drop them off at 7:30 so that they have time to eat their breakfast.  Dropping them off effects them being able to start their instruction on time.

Dismissal

We dismiss at 3:00 p.m.

If your child has a change in transportation, a note or a phone call (no later than 2pm) indicating the change will be needed.

If someone other then you will be picking up your child, a written note will be required for that as well. If you are picking up your child early or need to get them from the parent pickup without having your car tag, you must sign them out from the office. The primary concern for all staff is the safety and security of your child.

Take Home Folder

A red folder will be used for a daily Take Home Folder & Friday Folder.  This folder will be sent out each Friday afternoon containing your child's work from the week.  The folder will contain any information the school or I would like to inform you of. There is also a side for graded papers. Please keep all the papers, and return the folder on the following Monday.

Snacks

We will have a daily afternoon snack.  Please send one healthy snack with students (no cookies, chips or candy please).  We usually will work and have snack at the same time.  It is helpful to enjoy a snack that can be eaten with one hand.

Birthdays

You are welcome to provide cookies, brownies, or other pre-portioned treats for your child’s birthday.   Birthdays will be celebrated during our snack time.  Please check with me before you send something, so we can make sure it doesn’t interfere with any allergies anyone may have.

Invitations will only be allowed to be passed out at school, if each child in the class gets an invitation. If you would like to invite individual students, please contact their parents to see about getting them an invitation.

Second Grade Homework

Second graders will bring home read to self homework on a weekly basis and turned in each Friday.  Mrs. Henigan will send an email when math homework is assigned for the class.  It will always be due on Fridays when it is assigned.  Additional math homework may be sent when needed.

Second Grade Team

The 2nd Grade team of teachers is a PLC (Professional Learning Community). We are committed to working together to achieve our collective goals. We develop a collaborative culture with our students through the development of high-performing teams.  Students will be going to other second grade teachers for individualized intervention of an essential 2nd grade skill.
