About Me

Our boys are runners. When I say "runners", I mean 50 to 60 miles a week kind of runners. Drew is off to college to run and study business at Dallas Baptist University, and Shane is going into his sophomore year at Denton High School where he is active in theater and actively breaking his brother's marks when he was a sophomore:)

The McLaughlins love to travel. We take a summer vacation every year. Sometimes it is to the beach, like this summer. Other times it is to the National Parks in Utah and Arizona. Other times it is to Hawaii. We just enjoy spending time together, and we feel very fortunate to have had the time to do so.

Texas is very special to us. It is hard to believe, but I had 13 years of teaching 5th or 6th grade in California (Wendy had 11 years) before we moved out to Texas from the Central Valley of California. We left a lot of good friends behind, both work colleagues and neighbors, but we've never regretted the move. Texas was the right place for Wendy and I to raise our boys. We couldn't be happier here!!

This year marks my 29th year as an elementary school teacher. 13 of those years were spent in California in the small town of Galt, just south of Sacramento. After 4 or 5 years of teaching....I met my soon to be wife, Wendy, and we were lucky enough to work together at the same school in Galt our last two years before moving to Texas. In 2007, with our two boys in tow, Drew 3 and Shane, not yet 1, we made the move to Denton. After a year in Lewisville ISD, teaching at Morningside Elementary School, I was fortunate enough to be asked to work at Blanton Elementary the year it opened, back in 2008. Three short years later......I moved to Wendy's school, EP Rayzor, and the rest is history. This will be my 12th year at EP Rayzor, and I couldn't be more excited to get things started. The beginning of the school year seems so similar to me. The kids haven't changed, and I don't feel that I have, but every once in a while, I'll hear from a former student.....in their late 30s, telling me about their son or daughter being old enough to be in my class, and then.....I start felling a little old. Age is just a number, right!! I still have a zest for teaching, and seeing young students get excited about learning still fires me up!!! I have been blessed a million times over, and look forward to sharing in your child's academic journey this year!!!
