Hello!

My name is Mrs. Jahnke and I teach Science, Social Studies and Health on our fabulous 5th Grade team! I have been teaching in  Elementary Education for many years now, with experiences in Kindergarten, 1st, 5th and 3rd Grade between Minnesota and Texas. I am a graduate of Minnesota State University, with areas of concentration in Coaching and Spanish. 

My family (pictured here) consists of my husband of 26 years, my daughter who is attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock, and my son who is a Denton firefighter. You can't forget our pup Lulu! She is our little angel!

Now that you know all of that...the fun stuff! I love Science and Social Studies! And especially how they are a part of our everyday lives as well as a part of everything we do each day. How? Oh my goodness! Science is all around us! Literally! You will see through all of our experiences (hands on, research, group, solo, and of course at camp). Ahhh camp! YES! This year we get to attend Science camp and stay overnight! More details to come... In Social Studies we will be diving deep into US History. We've already learned where we got our freedoms from, but how did that come to be, and where does our nations' history go from there to get to where we are today? You will see how it all works together soon enough, and I can't wait to experience it all with you!

My goal for this year is to foster deeper learning in our concepts, not just "getting it." You may hear me saying, "Let's ponder why that is...How would it be different if...How does one Scientific Breakthrough help the other?...Let's explore phenomena to learn more!" We will also have many hands on experiences as well as getting outside to explore our learning targets. Don't be surprised if you find yourself doing Math, Writing, or Reading in my class because it all works together! Or, you may not even notice because you are having so much fun with the content! Speaking of fun...did I mention science camp? More details to come!

I can't wait to get to know our new learners, and continue the learning journey with my previous students. It has already been a joy to watch some of you grow and mature at EPRayzor. You're going to love 5th Grade!
