In Texas, students are considered to have reached “college, career, and military readiness” when they have met one of the success criteria identified by the Texas Education Agency. Denton ISD is committed to helping each student reach one or more of these criteria so they are prepared for the future they plan to have in college, the workforce, or the military.
Texas Education Agency considers a student College Ready when they meet any one of the following criteria:
Qualifying scores on the SAT, ACT, or TSIA test in both Math and ELAR
Receive a 3 or higher on at least one Advanced Placement (AP) exam
Receive a 4 or higher on any IB exam.
Earn 3 college hours in Dual Credit English/Math or 9 hours in other Dual Credit courses.
At DHS, we offer AP, IB, and Dual Credit courses that can help students meet this criteria
DHS students will all take the SAT their Junior year
We offer the TSIA test periodically as well
Career Ready indicators set by the Texas Education Agency include meeting any one of the following criteria:
Complete a Program of Study in CTE and earn an Industry-Based Certification
Graduate with a completed IEP and demonstrate workforce readiness
In DISD, students initially select their Program of Study in 8th grade during course selection.
You can see your student's 4-year-plan on their SchooLinks account and contact their school counselor if you have any questions.
Students interested in changing their Program of Study during high school can meet with their school counselor to see if it is possible.
Per the Texas Education Agency, a student is Military Ready if they enlist in a branch of the Armed Forces and score a qualifying score on the ASVAB Test.
At DHS, we administer the ASVAB multiple times each year.
We also can help coordinate meetings with recruiters, with parent permission
Contact our Career Counselor if you are interested in the Military pathway!
