Do I have to be a DISD employee to sign up?
No. We welcome every adult who wants to learn
If I can't make the class, is my payment refundable?
Unfortunately, we cannot refund the payment but we can save a place for you in another class if there is room or reserve a spot for you in the next year's classes.
What do I need to bring?
Water Bottle
100% Cotton Welding Cap
Welding Gloves (gauntlet style for stick preferred)
Non-Holey Jeans
Cotton Shirt or Long Sleeve Heavy Cotton Shirt
Closed Toe, Closed Heel Shoes; preferably leather boots or shoes. Leather gaiters or spats can be used over tennis shoes.
No contacts and Safety glasses that fit over glasses or prescription safety glasses
Can my recently graduated senior attend?
No. This is to prevent our graduating seniors from signing up and taking up spots.
Can I wear my prescription glasses as safety glasses?
No. They do not provide adequate protection. You will need to find Safety glasses that fit over glasses that are ANSI Z87. We recommend purchasing these in advance and making sure they fit before the class.
Can I receive PD hours from this course?
Yes, but it is specific to welding. If this is for your teaching certificate, it must pertain to what you teach/your teaching certificate in order to count.

Where can I buy small or extended sized PPE?

What welding certification can I earn from this class?
Welding certifications are skill based and very specific and as such there are many different types. The certification we offer, AWS D9.1, is for sheet metal and lasts 6 months up to a year.

If I am a DISD employee and am injured, can I use workers comp?
No.
