Virtual Instruction

Resources for Virtual Classes

If the district closes buildings and decides to hold classes virtually, how can we rethink serving students.

Types of Lessons

What are some fun ways to teach content in a digital platform?

1. Use videos from Learn 360 or Discovery Education to teach the content then hold class discussions or ask them to choose from a Choice Board to share their learning.

2. Webquests.

3. Digital Breakouts.

4. Video Responses using FlipGrid or the camera app on their phone.

5. Choice Boards - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1XOfAZzk-1A8uClSU4r4wJFwIWXZD8Oim3KTMX3JqXHI/mobilebasic

Instruction

1. Use Zoom or SeeSaw to provide direct instruction to classes.

Use Asynchronous Learning. Create learning experiences for students to work at their own pace and take time to absorb content.

2. Put together resource pages for teachers. There might be a lot of research papers being assigned as they work through this. What resources do we have that you could put together to support teachers assignments?

3. Can you put together webquests or digital breakouts for students to complete for prizes when they return?

4. Can you put together videos for a flipped classroom type of lesson? Then discuss what they learned when you meet virtually or when they return to school? Or use the power of our digital resources such as TexQuest Resources, Nearpod, or Digital Breakouts to find already prepared lessons.

4. Can you put together lessons on some of the topics you might not get to as often such as media literacy (fake news), visual literacy, etc. This could help students determine what information is credible on the Covid-19 topic.

a. Kid Friendly Lessons on Covid-19.

4. Digital citizenship lessons on nearpod. You can track who has completed them.

5. You might offer 1:1 help with lessons.

6. Lessons on web searching using a video tool such as Adobe Spark, Google Slides automated.

7. Can you help your teachers with Poetry, Drama, or Short Stories.

For students with no internet access

1. Can we provide books by mail?

2. Check out extra books.

3. Can you give free books?

4. Can you mail lessons to be completed?

5. Spectrum providing 2 months free access
