My name is Jan Daniel Bouhs. I was born in Düren, a small town west of Cologne in Germany. My parents soon moved to Cologne where I grew up and attended school. I played a variety of sports, in particular tennis and football. In 1995, I traveled to Texas for the very first time and became an exchange student at Keller High School where I was part of the Varsity Tennis Team as well as the Debate Team.

After I had returned to Germany and had graduated high school with the Abitur, the German high school degree that provides eligibility to enroll at a university, I attended law school at the University of Cologne. By passing both state board examinations, I became eligible to be barred. For the next years, I ran my own little law firm in Cologne. Ultimately, I also became a certified mediator.

In 2010, I moved to the United States of America and since 2012, I have been living in Texas. In 2016, I received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in German from the University of North Texas. In 2017, I completed my clinical teaching internship at Frontier High School in Mansfield. I taught German at the Dallas Goethe Center from 2016 until 2018 and have been teaching German at the German School of Dallas since 2018. I first participated in Winterfest, a regional German contest leading to the Texas State German Contest, in 2016 and my students have always been quite successful, winning several state contests. In both 2017 as well as 2018, students of mine won the AATG Study Trip Awards through the AATG National German Examination and received round-trip air transportation to Germany, lived with host families, attended classes at a Gymnasium, the highest level of high school in Germany, equivalent to an honors program, and participated in excursions to places of cultural and historical significance.

Since the academic year 2018/2019, I am part of the World Languages Department at Ray Braswell High School.
