The goal of the various teams is to learn and grow upon a variety of skill sets. These skills may vary from drill to cyber security depending on the team. There are 3 competitions or drill meets a year that teams, including Color Guard, Drill, and PT, compete at. There is an Academic Bowl that KHAS competes in and a Cyber Patriot competition that are held during school once a year. Joining a JROTC team will benefit you and make your experience in JROTC much more exciting and interesting!
Color Guard is one of the most important teams in a JROTC unit. Color Guard presents the national and state flags at school and community events. The time spent at events are put towards community service hours with the exception of drill meets. Practices are are open to all cadets. We learn rifle movements, how to present the US and Texas flags and how to march. Color Guard competes in about 3 drill meets a year and is the most visible team to the public. You can earn the Color Guard ribbon in this team.
The Drill team will help you learn and polish the 30 step drill sequence. We compete at about 3 drill meets a year. All cadets are eligible to join. Drill will be used in class and in specific events such as parades. You can earn the Drill ribbon in this team.
The Physical Training (PT) team focuses on the development of an individuals physical fitness. This team competes at about 3 Drill meets a year. The competitions for PT consist of push ups, sit ups, standing broad jump, and the 4x100 meter relay. PT and can help you earn they physical fitness ribbon.
Orienteering will teach you how to use a map and compass to find your way through a series of check points. The course is typically set in the wilderness in a area that cadets aren't familiar with and most courses are timed. You can earn the Orienteering ribbon in this team.
Kitty Hawk Air Society (KHAS) is the academic team of Braswells AFJROTC. They work to promote academic excellence, encourage cadets participation in the various activities in the AFJROTC program and to better the corps in as many ways as possible. KHAS competes in the Academic bowl. To be in KHAS you have to recommended by a current KHAS member, have an A in AFJROTC , a B average in the rest of your classes, and then complete the KHAS application process. You can earn the KHAS badge in this team.
The Awareness Presentation Team(APT) raises awareness on topics like Anti Bullying, Anti-Drugs, and physical health though various presentations and activity throughout the year. They visit elementary and middle schools throughout the year to help young students develop good coping behaviors and outstanding citizenship. You can earn the APT badge in this team.
