NCCER/Certification FAQs
Q: What is NCCER Core Certification?
A: NCCER’s Core is a prerequisite to all of their Level 1 curricula and covers topics such as safety, introductions to hand and power tools, employability skills and more. Trainees who complete the curriculum have the basic skills needed to continue training in any craft area chosen.
This curriculum has been revised to meet the latest industry guidelines and standards, including extensive updates to four modules: “Introduction to Construction Math,” “Introduction to Hand Tools,” “Introduction to Power Tools” and “Introduction to Construction Drawings.”
Q: Can I or my student weld in the shop without obtaining NCCER Core Certification?
A: No. Denton ISD policy requires all students who participate in the shop to have safety certification.
Q: Am I able to pass this class without getting the certification?
A: No. Since you are required to get the certification before you go in the shop and shop was is essential to learning to weld, if you do not certify, you cannot pass.
Q: I have my OSHA 30 Certification from another class, am I able to substitute that for NCCER Core?
A: No. Denton ISD policy requires all students who participate in the Welding Program to obtain NCCER Core Certification.
Q: Am I able to take some of the assessments at home?
A: No. NCCER requires that students take the assessments on their testing platform with an instructor present to facilitate.
