Choir Mid Term Project Information

Registration Information

I want to be in choir next year, what period should I sign up for?

A: As long as you sign up for any choir class, you are good. If a correction needs to be made, Mr. Brown and Gilliland will make it. You can use the guidelines below to assist you in the decision making.

Current 9th Grade Girls - Register for Kantorei, which will NOT be double blocked

Current 9th - 11th Grade Boys - Register for either Chorale (not double blocked) or A Cappella which WILL be double blocked

Current 10th - 11th Grade Girls - Register for either Kantorei (not double blocked) or A Cappella which WILL be double blocked

I want to audition for Respira and Madrigals, do I have to sign up for an extra choir class?

A: NO! Madrigals will be integrated into A Cappella with some after school rehearsals, and Respira will remain in its normal rehearsal schedule outside of the school day.

Why should I stay in choir for 4 years, I think i might want to try something else?

4 years of participation in choir will gain you a wealth of life experiences, AND a Fine Arts endorsement for you transcript.

Being in choir adds great balance to your schedule which will allow you to get more out of your traditional academic courses.

Learning to sing is a lifelong skill that is developed over a long period of time. The longer you are in choir, the more you will benefit from growth.

Choir is a great place to make music with friends and build your leadership and interpersonal skills.

It's FUN!!!! DUH!!!

I think I might have a conflict in my schedule that will keep me from being in choir, what do I do?

A: Talk to your counselor and Mr. Brown. DON'T WAIT! We will work to help you find a solution, and most times there are solutions.

Can I be in choir and other extracurricular activities? I hear it's really hard.

A: That depends on you. MANY students participate in choir and other extracurriculars like theater, band, athletics, IB, etc. and they excel and are deeply committed to both. Mr. Brown will work with you if you are proactive when you become aware of conflicts, but YOU will have to be responsible to avoid problems. If you have questions you can always ask!

I'm not sure that I'm going to do choir next year. How might that impact which group I am placed in if I do choose to stay?

A: We anticipate more people enrolling in choir due to the addition of an extra class period. This may mean that it is more competitive to be placed into the auditioned ensembles.

It is very important that you are registered to be in choir when those decisions are made so that you can be considered for the ensembles you may want to be a part of.

When will I find out what choir I'm in next year?

A: No list will be posted this year. Singers will find out which classes they are registered for at schedule pick-up.

Singers selected for Madrigals and Respira will be notified sometime around the end of the school year.
