Comal ISD requires students to have a high school cumulative grade point average of 3.70 or higher or a weighted grade point average of a 92 or higher.
Students in their junior and senior years who meet the scholarship requirement will have an opportunity to complete a Student Activity Information Form detailing their accomplishments in and commitment to service, leadership, and character. Invitations to complete the Student Activity Information Form will be delivered to eligible students during the fall semester. *Spring Semester evaluations will no longer be held.*
This involves voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation.
Students hoping to be eligible for membership are encouraged to participate in service projects during their freshman and sophomore years to show a commitment to community service. Verification of participation in service projects is required for the Student Activity Information Form to be completed by candidates for membership.
Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.
The student of good character is cooperative; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability, shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others; and generally maintains a clean disciplinary record.

Membership in NHS prepares you for whatever comes your way after high school. Participation in NHS will help prepare members for college and your career.
Formal recognition of being am member of NHS is the most obvious benefit. The title of NHS, recognized by colleges and universities, scholarship organizations, and internship and summer programs, indicates your commitment to academics and service. NHS students are among the top of their class and in academics, leadership, service, and character.
Other benefits included opportunities for leadership development through the chapter's work and national conferences and events.
Leadership Experience and Development (LEAD) conferences are held three weekends a year in various cities across the nation. The conference offers students and advisers the opportunity to develop their skills and grow as leaders. LEAD conferences are open to students in NHS, National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), and the National Association of Student Councils)
National Student Leadership Week is an annual theme based week organized by local schools and chapters dedicated to recognizing and supporting the role student leadership.
State Summits are a one-day program offered NHS and NJHS students to listen to state leaders about hot-button issues, and participate in think-tank discussions to identify challenges at the school or in the community and develop and implement solutions.
The NHS Scholarship program awards hundreds of scholarships annually to eligible high school seniors.
