Thank you for your interest in the CLHS Hawk Band and Color Guard. We would love for you become a performing member of our team. All you have to do is select BAND as your first choice on your choice card for next year and we can help with the rest. We ENCOURAGE ALL current 8th grade band students to JOIN US and try it out for the year. High School Band is a VERY DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE than middle school band and YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE IT.
IF I CURRENTLY USE A SCHOOL INSTRUMENT, CAN I DO THAT IN HIGH SCHOOL?
Yes, we have school owned instruments that you may use, just like at MVMS.
WHAT IS SUMMER BAND OR BAND CAMP?
To be ready for our first football game performance on the first Friday of school, we start practicing as a full band (guard included) in the summer. Percussion and Colorguard students will have their own “mini camps” that happen in July before the full band gets together. WE PERFORM AT EVERY VARSITY FOOTBALL GAME so it’s important that everyone involved knows their music and production responsibilities.
CAN I BE IN BAND AND SOMETHING ELSE TOO?
Yes! Yes! Yes! You can do band and athletics, band and cheer, band and dance, band and ROTC, band and choir - if there’s room in your schedule, you can do it. We have multiple students involved with many different activities and still do band. Sometimes, there are conflicts, but we always try to work it out. Our preference is, "if there’s a way to do both, then do both.” There may be a time when a student needs to prioritize one event or another. We always view those instances on a case by case basis.
DO I NEED A PHYSICAL TO PARTICIPATE?
Yes. New for this year, Comal ISD is requiring ALL student athletes, dance, band/guard, cheer and ROTC students get a new physical. You will need to do this through your family’s medical provider. More information is available here: https://www.comalisd.org/apps/pages/StudentPhysical
WHAT IS MY FINANCIAL OBLIGATION?
There will be supplies that you’ll need. Marching shoes, Water Bottle, a polo shirt, marching gloves etc. A detailed list for next year's items will be available on the band webpage shortly IN THE MEANTIME, you can view the current year’s supply list in the documents section of our webpage. DON’T LET MONEY BE A DECIDING FACTOR! If there’s a will and a need, we can help. Typically, students’ supplies/food etc will cost $300+ per season. Depending on what supplies you already have, you may not need to duplicate your supplies form year to year, which can save you money. Again, DON’T LET THIS WORRY YOU! IF THERE’S A REAL NEED, WE CAN HELP.
