[Research Focus]
Neuronal aging and neurological disorders currently lack effective treatments, and accumulating evidence in humans has consistently demonstrated their association with metabolic stress conditions, including diabetes, obesity, inflammatory diseases, and chronic stress. Because the underlying pathogenic mechanisms remain poorly understood, elucidating these mechanisms has the potential to advance our knowledge of disease pathology and identify novel therapeutic targets for neurological disorders.
To this end, our laboratory pursues the following research directions:
Investigating the molecular mechanisms by which metabolic stress drives neuronal aging and neurodegeneration
Studying organelle resilience and selective autophagy regulation
Exploring gut microbiota–metabolite modulation and validating its therapeutic potential
[Experimental Approaches]
Our laboratory employs an integrated research strategy, utilizing cell-based systems to dissect molecular mechanisms and disease model mice to evaluate therapeutic efficacy.
To achieve these goals, we apply a broad range of methodologies, including molecular and biochemical techniques, primary neuronal cell culture, generation of disease model mice, confocal microscopy imaging, gene knock-in/knock-out strategies using viral vectors, sequencing-based analyses, and patient-derived tissue samples.
