Tau Beta Pi is the oldest national engineering society in the United States honoring engineering students who exemplify in academic achievement as well as character. A Tau Beta Pi member will also show a commitment to personal and professional integrity and serving their community.

Tau Beta Pi was founded in 1885 at Lehigh University with the goal of providing an honors society for those not pursuing the liberal arts. It is now the second oldest honors society in the nation, behind only Phi Kappa Beta.
The SC Alpha chapter here at Clemson University was founded in 1928 and has initiated over 4000 members. The SC Alpha Chapter also boasts the only concrete bent (the symbol of Tau Beta Pi) in the nation, located in front of Riggs Hall.
