The vinyl cutter (also called a die cutter) is a simple machine that can cut precise shapes out of sticker material, paper, thin plastic, or even fabric. It is entry level and beginner friendly.
The vinyl cutter is limited in that it cannot print stickers but only cuts them: so everything is a single color (unless the vinyl roll itself is rainbow, etc) and in silhouette. This makes it perfect for the Clemson paw or any kind of lettering.
The vinyl cutters are located in the Cooper Makerspace, which is located on the 5th floor of Cooper Library. The vinyl cutter is free to use but you must complete online training to be able to use it:
1
Join the Clemson Makerspace Canvas page by clicking here
2
In Canvas, complete the Makerspace's General Safety Training + the General Safety Quiz
3
In Canvas, complete the vinyl cutter module to learn how to use the machine.
4
Visit Cooper Makerspace when you're ready to vinyl cut. Locate one of the two vinyl cutters (we have the Silhouette Cameo, which is more technical, and a Cricut).
5
Load your design onto the computer next to the vinyl cutter. Open the respective design program (Silhouette Studio or Cricut Design Studio) and walk through the steps from the Canvas training.
Load your vinyl into the machine. The makerspace has a small amount of test vinyl if you only need to make small stickers. If you want a special material or a lot of designs, you'll want to bring your own vinyl.
