The Scabbard and Blade organization represents the highest military fraternity at Clemson University. The purpose of this organization is to promote interest in the military and to promote a closer relationship between the students and the military departments. Membership in Scabbard and Blade is open to a select number of Army and Air Force cadets not to exceed the top 10 percent of the Corps of Cadets. New members are selected by active individual qualities of leadership ability and exemplary character.

An 11 day physically and mentally strenuous period in which selected cadets will learn and be tested on military and Clemson history whilst growing in the 5 star principles.
The primary purpose of Scabbard and Blade is to raise the standard of military education in American Colleges and universities; to unit in closer relationship their military departments; to encourage and foster the essential qualities of good and efficient officers; and to promote friendship and good fellowship among cadet officers. The Society also disseminates knowledge of military education to the students and people of the country. In general, they acquaint the people with our national defense needs.
Believing that military service is an obligation of citizenship, and that the greater opportunities afforded college men and women for study of military science place upon them certain responsibilities as citizens, we, Cadet Officers in various Universities and Colleges conferring baccalaureate degrees, do form this Society and adopt this Constitution in order to unite in closer relationship the military departments of American Universities and Colleges; to preserve an develop the essential qualities of good and efficient officers; to prepare ourselves as educated men and women to take a more active part and to have a greater influence in the military affairs of the communities in which we may reside and above all to spread intelligent information concerning the military requirements of our country.
