Amy Carter, 2022 teacher of the year 11/12
Amy Carter's talk was very interesting, and very insightful. We started out her meeting by playing a game using tennis balls to, in her words, "shake things up". I really enjoyed this, its a very original way to start out a meeting and getting us all engaged. She talked to us about her personal story with her education, and her personal stories with teaching. I got a lot of insightful things from her talk, but one thing that will stick with me is, her saying, "Know your why". You need to know your why when teaching.
CAthy Moore-True colors keys to professional success
This professional development meeting was very interesting and meaningful to me. Ms.Moore handed out "color tests" and we looked at the pictures on the cards, and decided which one we related to more. Then we took a color test and saw which color we are. These colors have different meanings. each color nhas strengths and weaknsses. it was interesting seeing what color i was and how all the colors are different. when i nam teaching i will remember that all of my students are different colors and not to treat all of them the same way.
Kenddra stewart–Inclusion and equality
Kenddra Stewart is the Director of the harvey and lucinda gantt multicultural center here at clemson. her meeting was nsuper interesting, and really opened my eye on equality at clemson. One of her mainn points was dont create a "One size fits all" system. She talked about a image she likes, and i looked it up. It is a image of a guy cleaning off stairs and a girl in a wheelchair, asks if he could clean off the ramp. And the man says more people use the stairs, so once he is done he will do the ramp. The girl in the wheelchair says if you clean off the ramp everyone could go up. This really opened my eyes. In a classroom i need nto nlook at everyones needs and not only focus on the "big group".
Administration Meeting (Q&A)
I enjoyed this PD meeting very much! It was different from the other meetings. There were multiple speakers and was set up Q&A style. I liked this, it was very easy to stay engaged and pay attention in the meeting. I also enjoyed it because my mom has been a teacher, then an assistant principal, then a head principal. It was nice to see other principal's views on the education world.
The administrators that spoke during this profesional development meeting, gave us a lof of advice and things to use in the furture as a teacher. One of the main things i took away from this meeting was, "every situation is different and has a different answer" We as the future teachers want the answers to everything, but they explained to us that its a different situation everytime, and will require different plans of action.
