Course description
This course will further develop your confidence for communicating actively in English. Working in cycles of 4-6 weeks, you will use English to learn about social, political, legal and global issues of interest to you. In the first part of the course, you will extend your ability to research and understand issues. You will also develop your ability to explain, give presentations on, and discuss your research in pairs and small groups. In the second part of the course, you will further extend these abilities, choosing issues of interest to research and discuss in pairs and small groups.
この授業では積極的に英語でコミュニケーションを行なう自信をさらに高めることを目的とする。4-6週間の単位で、興味をもった社会、政治、法律およびグローバルな問題について、英語で学ぶ。前半では、様々な問題について英語で調べ、理解する能力を伸ばす。さらにペアや少人数のグループで、調べたことに関して説明し、プレゼンテーションをして、ディスカッションする能力を培う。後半ではこの能力をさらに発達させ、ペアや少人数のグループで課題を選び、調べ、議論する。
Requirements for independent study outside of class
Students will be expected to do 2 hours or more preparation outside class each week, including reading and listening, finding sources of information, note-taking, writing, and/or preparing for presentations.
受講生は、クラスの授業以外で毎週2時間以上の予習をすることが求められます。ここで言う予習とは、リーディング、リスニング、情報や資料収集、ノートテ―キングやライティング、プレゼンテーション準備などを指します。
Evaluation methods and criteria
Grades are 100% determined by continuous assessment. Requirements to pass this course: no more than 3 absences, active participation in class activities, weekly preparation outside class, and timely completion of assignments. Further details will be provided by the teacher at the start of the semester.
成績は100%平常点で決まります。ただし単位を修得するには、特段の理由がない限り、学期中の欠席は3回を超えないこと、毎週授業外の準備を行うこと、さらに課題を全て指定された締め切りまでに仕上げることが必要です。詳細は学期の開始に担当教員が説明します。
