Course description
This course will develop your confidence for communicating actively in English. Over the year, you will improve your use of English to learn about social, political, legal and global issues of interest to you. In cycles of 4-6 weeks, you will develop your ability to do research to build your knowledge of issues. You will also improve your ability to explain, give presentations on, and discuss your research in pairs and small groups. Your teacher may choose some of the research topics in this class, but you will have chances to choose issues of your own interest.
この授業では、英語での積極的なコミュニケーションについて、自信をつけることを目的とする。興味を持った社会、政治、法律、およびグローバルな問題について英語で学ぶ能力を磨く。4-6週間の単位で、各問題について調べて知識を深める訓練をする。さらにペアや少人数のグループで、調べたことに関して説明し、プレゼンテーションをして、ディスカッションする能力を培う。トピックは教員が指定する場合があるが、学生自身が興味を持ったトピックを選ぶ機会も与えられる。
Requirements for independent study outside of class
Students will be expected to do 2 hours or more preparation outside class each week, including reading and listening, finding sources of information, note-taking, writing, and/or preparing for presentations.
受講生は、クラスの授業以外で毎週２時間以上の予習をすることが求められます。ここで言う予習とは、リーディング、リスニング、情報や資料収集、ノートテ―キングやライティング、プレゼンテーション準備などを指します。
Evaluation methods and criteria
Grades are 100% determined by continuous assessment. Requirements to pass this course: no more than 3 absences, active participation in class activities, weekly preparation outside class, and timely completion of assignments. Further details will be provided by the teacher at the start of the semester.
成績は100％平常点で決まります。ただし単位を修得するには、特段の理由がない限り、学期中の欠席は3回を超えないこと、毎週授業外の準備を行うこと、さらに課題を全て指定された締め切りまでに仕上げることが必要です。詳細は学期の開始に担当教員が説明します。
