Leon has been exceptionally supportive throughout the exam booking process and has consistently gone above and beyond to ensure our learners receive the best possible support. He has shown incredible flexibility, particularly when working with our learners with additional needs, always taking the time to understand individual circumstances and finding practical solutions.
Over the past few months, Leon has been instrumental in coordinating and rearranging exams for both Level 2 and Level 3 Hairdressing learners. He has worked closely with Lorraine Robinson and myself to ensure exams have been booked as efficiently as possible; despite the many challenges we have faced.
In particular, Leon has been incredibly understanding when learners have had to cancel exams at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances, including medical issues such as seizures. He has always responded with patience and professionalism, helping us to rearrange bookings quickly and minimise disruption. He has also been extremely accommodating when learners have needed exams moved because of pre-booked holidays or other unavoidable commitments.
Nothing ever seems too much trouble for Leon. He is approachable, reliable and always willing to help. His calm, positive attitude and commitment to finding solutions have made a significant difference to both staff and learners, helping to reduce stress during what can often be a very demanding process.
Leon is a real asset to Barking & Dagenham College, and I believe he thoroughly deserves recognition for his outstanding support, flexibility and dedication.

Sharon has only been with Barking & Dagenham College for four weeks, she has already made a remarkable impact. She has brought hope, positivity and renewed direction to a department that has been severely understaffed and under significant pressure for the past three years.
From the moment Sharon joined, she has demonstrated exceptional leadership. She has taken the time to listen to her team, understand the challenges we have faced and work collaboratively to find practical solutions. Her door is always open, and she leads with empathy, professionalism and integrity.
Sharon has created an environment where staff feel valued, supported and motivated. She recognises people’s strengths, encourages teamwork and has already started to rebuild confidence and morale across the department. Her calm, approachable manner and positive attitude have made a genuine difference in a very short space of time.
What stands out most is that Sharon doesn’t simply manage from a distance—she gets involved, supports her team and leads by example. She is committed to improving both the staff experience and learner outcomes, and it is clear that she genuinely cares about making a lasting difference.
In just four weeks, Sharon has achieved something that many leaders take months to accomplish. She has given the Hair & Beauty department renewed optimism and belief that positive change is possible. I have no doubt that under her leadership the department will continue to grow and flourish.
Sharon is an outstanding asset to Barking & Dagenham College, and I believe she thoroughly deserves recognition for the exceptional impact she has already made.

Kayla consistently goes above and beyond in everything she does. She regularly gives up her time to support open events and interviews, and is always approachable, positive, and willing to help both staff and students. She creates engaging displays, helps maintain the nursery environment, and is a constant source of encouragement for our learners.
This year in particular, Kayla truly stepped up during a very challenging situation. When a member of staff left unexpectedly just one week before completion, leaving four groups of students with a significant portion of their qualification still to finish, Kayla didn’t hesitate to step in. She supported multiple groups, marked work, sat with students to guide them, completed portfolios, and even went out to assess students who were not originally assigned to her.
Her dedication, resilience, and genuine care for student success have made a huge impact. Kayla is an invaluable member of the team

Donna Provides exceptional support, care, and dedication to her learners, she consistently goes above and beyond to create a safe, inclusive, and trusting environment where learners feel valued, respected, and confident enough to share concerns that they may otherwise have kept hidden. Her genuine kindness, compassion, and approachable nature have enabled her to build strong relationships with learners, allowing safeguarding concerns to be identified and supported at an early stage.
Donna takes the time to truly understand her learners as individuals, demonstrating a level of commitment and investment that extends far beyond the classroom. She recognises the barriers that may prevent learners from engaging with English and works tirelessly to remove those barriers through patience, encouragement, and personalised support. Her ability to connect with learners who have previously felt disengaged has had a profoundly positive impact on their attitudes towards learning.
I have personally witnessed Donna transform the experiences of learners who were previously reluctant to attend English lessons or who displayed challenging behaviour. Through her consistent support and ability to build meaningful connections, she has helped these learners develop a greater sense of belonging and confidence. Donna creates a highly inclusive classroom environment where every learner feels heard, respected, and understood.
Her influence has extended beyond academic progress; she has played a significant role in improving learners’ self-esteem, motivation, and confidence. This positive change has translated into improved attendance, more positive behaviour, increased participation, and greater engagement with lessons. Donna’s dedication, empathy, and unwavering belief in her learners demonstrate the true impact a committed educator can have on the lives of young people.

I would like to compliment the whole of Horizons on yet another fantastic effort in looking after all our wonderful students. Not enough can be said about the efforts the staff put in to the wellbeing and enrichment our students receive each and every year from the tutors and learning support who work tirelessly towards our goal.
I wanted to send in this feedback to acknowledge the support Taran Zekai has given to the apprenticeship team
Being quite new to the college and coming into the team at a difficult time with a full DFE audit it was apparent very early on that we needed to address the compliance processes
I approached Taran to assist in putting something in place fairly quickly to break the cycle and Taran did exactly that.
Together with both our knowledge we built a system that is now used across the team and meets our full requirements. This has saved a huge amount of money for the college by not buying in a system but also reduced our risk significantly for future audits
The system is now widely used by staff, employers and students and has had a huge impact on efficacies and processes to keep us abreast of the ever-changing funding rules.
Taran has dedicated time, and approached this with understanding, efficiency and professionalism throughout and should be recognised as a valuable member of the team

I am writing this email regarding my tutor, Mrs Alison Fordham.
Alison has not only been a teacher to me, but she has also supported me in so many other ways. She helped me through family court proceedings last year and guided me on how to support my children through it all, as well as helping me understand the support they might need.
My daughter is now thriving, and I cannot thank her enough for that.
My son, Ollie, is now halfway through the process of being diagnosed, which is something I would not have pursued without Alison's guidance and encouragement to seek the help he needed.
Throughout these courses, Alison has pushed me to become a better version of myself—not only for my own benefit but for my children as well. Her support will never be forgotten.
On top of that, I know I will leave these courses qualified to do a job I have always wanted.
A massive thank you to Alison for everything she has done. It will be very sad to see her go.

The event was a fantastic success, with both our Level 1 and Level 2 learners thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to work with the carers. It also provided an excellent opportunity to complete progression trade tests for learners wishing to progress to Level 3, while at the same time giving something back to our local community.
The learners demonstrated professionalism and excellent customer service throughout, showcasing the high standards within our Hairdressing department. Many of the carers rebooked for colour services and completed their skin tests during today’s visit, which was an added bonus.
The feedback from both the carers and our learners has been overwhelmingly positive, and it was wonderful to see everyone benefiting from the experience.

During a recent learner deep dive, I had the opportunity to shadow a learner named Orgesa Bibaj. She is having a very positive experience at BDC and is thriving across all of her courses. She is currently studying English L2 and Maths L1, in addition to L2 Counselling.
The reason for my email is that Orgesa spoke very highly of the impact you had on her last year when she was studying L1 English with you. She moved to the UK with her family two years ago, and she shared how your support not only helped her succeed academically but also helped her settle into life in a new country. It is clear that you have been an important part of her journey so far and a very positive influence.

Greetings,
Last week we visited your school, specifically the digital arts department. The visit went smoothly.
We got welcomed by the receptionist who helped us quickly with the form that we had to fill in and the visitor passes. Then James came to welcome us, we were given coffee and then moved on to the visit of their department.
We’ve seen a few of your technological gems and got some explanation on the department.
Then we moved to a classroom where we could see what the students were up to. Everything during the visit went smoothly, so my compliments on that.
Your employees were very welcoming. I fully appreciate you welcoming us to your school.

I wanted to take a moment to share some positive feedback regarding our ongoing partnership with Barking and Dagenham College, and in particular the fantastic support we have consistently received from you.
This is now my third year working in Sydney Russell School and with the college, and throughout this time you have been exceptional. In previous years, you single-handedly organised taster days for 100 of our Year 10 students, creating hands-on experiences that our students absolutely loved. The tutors were incredibly engaging, and the visit made a lasting impression on our pupils. As a result many of our students ended up enrolling at BDC. We are very much looking forward to arranging something similar again in the future.
You have been incredibly accommodating when it comes to supporting us in school. Having delivered assemblies at short notice whenever you have been able to, and regularly attending our careers fairs. Communication with you is always effortless — responding promptly to emails and consistently being helpful and reliable.
Even this year, with the significant workload brought on by careers updates, you made time for a Teams meeting to help us finalise dates for our Year 9, 10, and 11 assemblies which I really appreciate.
In addition, I’d like to highlight that every member of staff I have liaised with at the college has been nothing but supportive and professional. It is always a pleasure working with your team.
Thank you once again for the continued collaboration. We truly value the relationship we have with Barking and Dagenham College and look forward to many more opportunities to work together.

The coffee shop is the first pit stop of our morning before we start our day in the office and it is the ONLY way how I’d like to start my day! Toni and Lura are exemplary examples of customer service and how to build relationships with staff and students — they remember and they care and appreciate!
Not only is their customer service faultless, their cold drink and hot drink quality is AMAZING for the price. I would choose to come to this coffee shop rather than Costa or Starbucks, where staff are working on autopilot and lose that human touch.
The new smoothies are my new favourite thing — especially the Coco Loco! 😊 I love the new direction that the coffee shop is going in and I hope it stays reinvented and exciting.
Thank you 😊😊

I would like to compliment the staff in the coffee shop. The service is great and always with a smiling face. They interact with staff in a fantastic way and try to ensure that they are served quickly so as not to hold up the staff. I have witnessed them dealing with difficult student issues both verbally and with actions, and they deal with them straight away and also in a non-confrontational way. The students interact with the staff, which means there is a trust in them. I have often witnessed small talk between staff and students where students seem to have a conversation on an equal level, and it looks like it is easy-going and enjoyable.
The coffee is also always good and the staff multi-task to create a quick and efficient service.
The public use this coffee shop as well and they always seem to be remembered, which creates a personal service and, hopefully, with all parties, staff, students, and the public helps create a positive image for the college.

As we discussed in class, I wanted to take a moment to share in more detail how the Teaching Assistant course has impacted my life and to express my sincere thanks to you and the college team.
Since January 2025, when I started the Level 1 course, my life at home had been very challenging due to my husband’s mental health struggles and aggressive behaviour. I realised something was wrong, but I had no idea how to navigate this unhealthy situation, especially with three children depending on me. I needed to protect not only myself but also my children.
By the blessing of this course, I gained knowledge about safeguarding and legal matters, which I had not fully understood despite living in the UK for six years. Studying these topics literally changed my life. I was able to make informed decisions to protect my children and myself, and I give much credit to this course for that.
More importantly, your contribution has been invaluable. The way you teach is amazing! you encourage us to do our best, share your own experiences that relate to our studies, and make learning relatable. I have learned so much from you, not only for this course but for life in general.
I also want to acknowledge Monteagle Primary School for giving us this opportunity. The school’s support, including facilities to study not only the TA course but also English and Maths, has greatly enhanced our skills.
Thank you to everyone involved in making this course possible. It has truly changed my life, and I hope that your teaching and this course will continue to positively impact many others who are in desperate need of guidance and support.

I am a mother of a student in the Horizon department. I am writing this to appreciate one of your staff in the finance department called Sarah.
I was having difficulty applying for my child’s bursary from the start of school or resumption if I may call it so. The problem seamed unsolvable but when I came to the school premises and approached Sarah in the finance department and I was perplexed by her great help.
She is excellent, and I want to really use this medium to recommend thank her for representing her department well. Thank you.
Please consider this letter and appreciate her for me.
