Bayport-Blue Point School District

Last spring, a select number of Bayport-Blue Point High School students worked diligently to prepare solos for the New York State School Music Association. These students were judged during a NYSSMA solo and ensemble festival this past May, earning high-achieving scores due to their hard work and dedication to the study of music.

These scores and teacher recommendations earned these students highly sought after spots in the prestigious All-County NYSCAME, All-County SCMEA Jazz and All-State NYSSMA festivals.

NYSCAME is a county music organization that offers students the ability to perform with students from other districts in annual concert festivals throughout Suffolk County. Students are selected from nomination lists to perform. The NYSCAME ensembles, which consist of 11th and 12th graders, rehearse for three days and perform a concert at the conclusion of the rehearsals.

Congratulations to the following students who were selected for NYSCAME All-County: Olivia D. (alto 1), Alexa E. (soprano 2), Anna F. (violin), Lily F. (clarinet), Sophia M. (soprano), Lianna M. (oboe), Francesco S. (tenor 2), Alexander V. (flute) and Anthony V. (trumpet).

The SCMEA All-County Jazz Festival is a concert series for musicians in grades 7-12, who have been nominated by their music instructors and selected to participate by the organization’s members. Participants attend three rehearsals prior to performing in a concert with some of the top student-musicians in Suffolk County.

Congratulations to the following students chosen for SCMEA All-County jazz ensemble: Ciro C. (alto saxophone), Timothy L. (trumpet), Atticus R. (piano), Francesco S. (tenor) and Eric S. (piano).

NYSSMA All-State is an honor festival for the top high school music students in New York State. All-State ensembles include bands, orchestras, chorus and jazz ensembles. The All-State selection process is very competitive with over 7,000 students competing for 890 positions in the eight All-State ensembles.
