Math

Welcome to McCall 5th Grade Math!

Teachers: Ms. Cravens and Mrs. Sanders (both teachers will give the same homework, graded assignments and tests)

Conference Period: 12:55 - 1:50

Homework Policy: Students will receive homework each Friday, with selected questions to be completed Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday night. A student should attempt each problem showing reading strategies and be able to justify their final answer. An average math student should be able to solve the selected problems (approximately 5 problems) in 15 minutes or less. Students may stop if they get stuck, upset, or have worked for 20 minutes mark for that section of questions.

Think Through Math/Reflex: Students will pass two lessons (TTM) and earn three green lights (Reflex) each week. They have opportunities to work on these programs in the computer lab at least once per week, and during FIT time throughout the week.

Corrections: Students may correct any daily or test grade in which they've received less than a 70%. Corrections must be turned in no later than one week after the graded assignment has been returned, and must be submitted on a corrections form in order to earn points. Half credit will be given to each problem up to a 70 when the student shows understanding of both the mistake made and justification for the correct answer.

Assessments: Tests given in 5th grade will be STAAR-level, so therefore test grades will be what you can expect them to score on standardized tests. We are holding students to this standard on assessments, because students must pass STAAR in order to pass 5th grade.

Online Resources: Students will have online access to their text book; please follow the directions below. Access to homework and an assortment of study materials is available through our math Google Classroom. This may be accessed by students both at school and at home.
