In third grade, students are provided with essential tools to tackle new math concepts every day. Students explore new concepts through Inquiry-based anchor tasks that encourage problem solving through the use of manipulatives, conversations with peers, and sketching. These tasks help students see many different ways to solve a problem. Math concepts in third grade progress to multi-digit computations and, therefore, fluency in operations is also an essential part of our daily math period.
We're excited that this year in third grade we will begin with weekly fractions instruction and practice. This will allow us to reteach and spiral some of the end-of-year concepts students learned during virtual instruction last year in second grade.
