Reading in third grade is an exciting part of our day. Third graders learn to use powerful strategies to decode new and bigger words, comprehend more complex literature, and develop an appreciation of the outside world through informational texts.

Students in third grade hone their writing skills through the use of the writing process. Third grade writers will develop narrative, informational, and opinion essays every week.

The writing process includes:

• Prewriting/Brainstorming

• Drafting the essay

• Revising (ARMS - Add, Remove, Move, Substitute)

• Editing (COPS - Capitalize, Organize, Punctuate, Spell)

• Publishing and sharing the final copy
