PTA stands for Parent Teacher Association. Our main mission is to advocate for and promote the success of every child. We strive to provide fun and educationally enriching programs that help children thrive and engage families on a regular basis.
As the first International Baccalaureate / Primary Years Programme in North Carolina, Farmington Woods Magnet Elementary connects students to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study through a focus on the development of international mindedness and building student inquiry while preparing students to be leaders and life-long learners.
The overall purpose of the PTA is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. The FWES PTA is committed to Connect, Support, and Grow all our students and families.
Collaboration: We will work in partnership with a wide array of individuals and organizations to broaden and enhance our ability to serve and advocate for all children and families.
Commitment: We are dedicated to children’s educational success, health, and well-being through strong family and community engagement, while remaining accountable to the principles upon which our association was founded.
Diversity: We acknowledge the potential of everyone without regard, including but not limited to: age, culture, economic status, educational background, ethnicity, gender, geographic location, legal status, marital status, mental ability, national origin, organizational position, parental status, physical ability, political philosophy, race, religion, sexual orientation, and work experience.
Respect: We value the individual contributions of members, employees, volunteers, and partners as we work collaboratively to achieve our association’s goals.
Accountability: All members, employees, volunteers, and partners have a shared responsibility to align their efforts toward the achievement of our association’s strategic initiatives.
Connect. The PTA helps engage the FWES community within the school and to our society both locally and globally. As a magnet and an IB school, we have a diverse and expansive community that not only represents Wake County but also many international cultures. We provide a range of programs to bring together all our students including Cultural Arts performances, World Dance, STEAM Night, and other Family Events.
Support. The PTA supports all aspects of learning at FWES through funding events and programs as well as providing volunteers. Participation in any fundraising event is voluntary - never mandatory - and there are a variety of ways families can support PTA efforts. GoPlaySave coupon books and the Global Fun Run are examples of traditional fundraising drives, and these funds raised allow us to support all our programs and services. Many corporations provide donations to FWES through their employee's charitable contribution options, and we welcome partnerships with local businesses. PTA supports our staff with supply funds and offer grants to maximize the educational potential for classrooms.
Grow. The PTA works with FWES teachers and staff to grow all our students as individuals. The PTA sponsors student access to Raz-Kids and PebbleGo, as well as funding technological resources and books in the Inquiry Center. We also sponsor clubs which provide additional education in fields such as photography, sewing, or running. Our volunteers also manage the FWES Community Garden.
Volunteers. The FWES PTA is a completely volunteer organization that relies on the parent, teacher, and caregiver community to run all of our programs and services. There are many ways you can volunteer and most of the opportunities can be flexible. We are always looking for translators, room parents, and Hook-A-Book readers. We need volunteers for campus work days, book fair, picture days, and Field Day among others. Many positions have work that can be completed off-campus and when convenient. If you have time to give, please review our volunteer opportunities.
