What does the current injury timeline look like and what are the steps in rehab in order to return to sport
Surgery: Autograft or Allograft
BPTB, HT, QT
Tibialis Anterior/Posterior or Achilles
Weeks 0-6: Healing, Control, Mobility
Weeks 7-12: Strength, Endurance, Control
Weeks 13-18: Straight Running (if on pace)
Weeks 19+: Agility (if on pace)
RTS: typically 9 months minimum
After surgery: reduce effusion, regain knee motion, and increase quad control
6 weeks later: Work on muscle strength and endurance as well as neuromuscular control
6 week later: straight ahead running if
quad symmetry
low knee effusion
equal ROM
low pain
6 weeks later: agility
RTS when:
ROM equal
Strength 85%
No effusion
Complete agility/running program
All timeframes are subject to change based on patient readiness to move onto the next phase. This timeline gives a schedule to be ready by 6 months, but in reality it takes much longer to ensure that the chance of reinjury is lower and that patients are truly strong enough and have enough mobility to move on without problems.
