There is a global need for tools to create a more sustainable planet, environmentally, socially, and economically...
Food and climate insecurity are overlooked globally. Food systems today account for over forty percent of global greenhouse gas emissions and use almost three-quarters of the world’s ice-free land; yet, as of 2020, 6/7 people have a food-related diet issue. By shifting the consumption of meat towards a plant-based diet the challenges of diet-related disease and soil degradation can be fixed. The utilization of sustainable farming practices with pea plants such as crop rotation, and selective breeding not only improves yields and nutritional content but can also restore damaged soils, sequester carbon, and aid in the transition to plant-based diets all while being economically feasible.
Nitrogen Fixation and Crop Rotation
Nutrient deficiencies: Globally 6/7 people have a food-related health issue.
Diet-related disease: Diet-related diseases continue to increase because of overconsumption of meat, lack of nutrient diversity, soil degradation, and the development of processed and fast food.
Obesity
Heart disease
Type 2 diabetes
