What is Title I?
Walters is a Title I School, which means we recieve federal funding to support students and ensure all learners have access to a high-quality education. Title I funding is designed to help close achievement gaps and provide additional academic and social-emotional support for students who need it most. Our school operates a Title I Schoolwide Program, allowing us to use funds to support all students through improved instruction, targeted intereventions, and family engagement.
How Title I Supports Students at Walters
Title I funds are used to strengthen teaching and learning by supporting:
academic intervention programs,
additional staffing,
counseling and social-emotional learning supports,
professional development for staff,
supplemental instructional materials and technology, and
extended learning opportunities.
All Title I expenditures are aligned with our School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) and based on student data and family input.
Parent and Family Engagement
We believe familes are essential partners in student success. Title I provides opportunities for parents and guardians to be actively involved in their child's education. Families are encouraged to:
attend Title I meetings, workshops, and parent engagement events,
participate in school committees (SSC, ELAC, etc.),
provide feedback on school programs and plans, and
communicate regularly with teachers and staff.
Please mark your calendars for our tentative events this year (subject to change). More information will be sent on Parent Square.
