Hello Patterson Families,
My name is Ms. Velazquez, This is my second year as a Counselor and I Graduated From Fresno with my Masters in School Counseling. My Goal this year is to connect and build relationships with your students and your families so we can work as a team to target concerns. As a Immigrant myself and daughter of Immigrants, I pride myself supporting our new comers and letting them know I will be there biggest supporter in their education and adjusting to our school and getting them familiar with our 3 B's we use here at Patterson, Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be safe.
At Patterson we are connecting with students every Tuesday during their Enrichment time to provide
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) which reflects on the critical role of positive relationships and emotional connections in the learning process and helps students develop a range of skills they need for school and life. SEL skills include the ability to:
set and achieve positive goals
feel and show empathy for others
establish and maintain positive relationships
make responsible decisions
understand and manage emotions
All of these skills are necessary—both for educators and students—to function well in the classroom, in the community, and in college and careers.
This is one of many tools students are given to help regulate their emotions.
Tier 1 encompasses the entire school with core instructions and basic interventions. This structure helps to build positive relationships between staff and students. It includes proactive classroom management strategies aimed at creating a supportive atmosphere.
Tier 2 is for students who need a little extra assistance in meeting academic and behavioral goals, and it is in that these individuals receive interventions and supports are delivered in small group settings, such as reading groups. Check-In/Check-Out (CICO)
Tier 3 is for students who have significant challenges that do not respond to Tier 1 or Tier 2. It gives these students individualized supports and can include assistance from outside agencies such as behavioral counselors or family therapists.
