My name is Ms. De La Rosa, and I am excited to be back for my third year as your Brookvale librarian. I've grown up in the Bay Area my whole life, but I've only recently moved to Fremont with my partner, my cat Sophia, and my dog Chubbs. I have two younger siblings that I absolutely adore and whom you will probably hear about constantly!
I love to read, especially fantasy and mystery novels! My two favorite series are Percy Jackson & the Olympians and The Heroes of Olympus. I enjoy watercolor painting, completing puzzles, listening to Taylor Swift, and playing video games.
My goal for the library is to include a wide array of diverse voices and stories while also making sure I grow the areas and series that are extremely popular. I want to bring in new series that kids may not have heard of, but I will also get the latest Wimpy Kid book. 😉 I want our students to see their stories and experiences reflected in the pages and illustrations of our books; As well as, stories that are different, opening them up to other points of view and experiences.
During my first two years as your Brookvale librarian, I have accomplished some things that I find very exciting:
To stop the shelves from swallowing them up, I placed paperback picture books into separate, alphabetized bins.
I moved (many) shelves around to ensure that browsing and searching the shelves is easier than ever.
I weeded the nonfiction area and purchased lots of new nonfiction material to ensure our materials are up-to-date with the latest information. For example, our section on Native and Indigenous people had an average copyright year of 1999 but has now been replaced with new books.
I purchased a wide array of fiction that I thought our students would love across multiple genres and age ranges!
I have hosted (with the help of our wonderful school community), three successful book fairs! One with Literati and two with Scholastic.
I hope to continue strengthening and updating our collection in the coming years, as well as continuing work on some recent projects.
I spend so much time talking about books, reading about books, and even thinking about books, so you can trust that I am picking quality materials for our lovely little library. However, if you ever want to know more about my collection development process, please don't hesitate to email me.
