FAQs

  • How do I log in to the online catalog or to Destiny Discover?

To start, you'll need your school ID number. Your parents or guardians can find this information on the parent portal under your report cards, or Ms. De La Rosa can look it up for you while you are in the library.

Your username will be the first three letters of your first name, the first three letters of your last name, and the last three letters of your ID number.

Your password will be your full ID number.

Example:

Student: Percy Jackson

ID # 123456

Username: perjac456

Password: 123456

This login information will work for both the online catalog and Destiny Discover. Happy reading!

  • How long are my books checked out?

1 week! They are due the next time your class comes in for a library visit. For example, if you visit the library with your class on a Tuesday and you check out books, those books will be due next Tuesday. The same is true if you visited the library during lunch. If you checked out books during lunch on Monday, then they are due the following Monday. Don't forget that you can always return your books early by placing them in the bin outside my door before or after school!

  • Can I renew a book?

Sure! If no one has placed a hold on a book, you can renew it up to two times, before we have to have a mandatory check-in to ensure the book is not too hard or not too boring. If you are renewing it on the day you come to the library with your class, make sure to place one of the renewal cards from your teacher into your book and place it into the return bin for your class. You can also come in during lunch to renew your book, just make sure you have a library pass!

  • I want to return my book early. How do I do that?

Ms. De La Rosa will have a book return bin outside the library door facing the kindergarten classes before and after school. You can drop your books off there!

  • I don't remember when my class visits the library!

That's okay! I've attached the class schedule to the site so you can remember. Click on the link that says "Class Schedule" at the top of the page.

  • I forgot my books, can I check out a book still?

Sorry, no. You can't check out more book until you bring back the ones you checked out previously. However, if your class is doing independent reading, I will let you pull a book of the shelf and quietly read so you aren't bored. Just please return it to me when you're done!

  • How many books can I check out?

TK - Kindergarten: 1 book

1st - 2nd grade: 2 books

3rd - 6th grade: 3 books

  • What happens if I lose or damage a book?

For students, as discussed when we went over library rules, please tell your parents and then have them contact me!

For parents, the school district sets a replacement fee of $25 for hardcover books and $10 for paperback books that are lost or damaged. A book is considered "lost" when it is overdue by one month, and I have not heard from you after sending out an overdue notice. Overdue notices are typically sent out 2 weeks after a book's expected return date, sometimes 3 weeks to account for holidays or changes in the library schedule. Of course, if you would prefer to buy a new copy of a book from another vendor for a cheaper price, I will accept that as well but please make sure that it is absolutely the same book! Once the book has been returned, or the fee has been paid, or a new copy has been bought and given to me, the fine will be removed from your child's account, and they will be free to resume using the library.
