With strong partnerships and a solid welding program, welding instructor Will Greer works with his students to teach them the welding skills necessary to earn their welding certification and dual high school/college credit to transition to either the work world or post secondary technical training. Course include Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Oxy-Fuel Systems, Gas Metal Arc Welding and Blueprint Reading for Welding. The welding shop has been completely updated through the WKWRSI grant. Students can use a welding simulator, fabrication equipment, and new welding equipment throughout he lab. Students complete welding projects including a partnership with Ingram Barge that allows students to learn how to weld on barges and helps them to be placed in jobs there. Students are recognized as regional technical students and do well in regional and state competitions. The students host regional competitions to encourage a high level of performance in welding and participate in career fairs for middle school students to encourage future enrollment in the program.
