Dr. Okado (pronouns: she/they) received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Penn State University. Her main research interests include: 

(1) Mentoring, career development, and support for under-represented/underserved students' persistence in STEM, including Psychology;

 (2) Psychosocial and academic adjustment of U.S. college/university students (particularly in response to the COVID-19 pandemic); and

(3) Prevention of stress-related mental and physical illnesses through brief, online cognitive-behavioral interventions.

Dr. Okado's teaching interests include statistics and research methods, clinical psychology (child/adolescent/adult assessment and intervention), health and pediatric psychology, and positive psychology.  She currently serves as the Coordinator for Psychology 300 (Intermediate Research Methods and Statistics).

Dr. Okado is also a licensed clinical psychologist.  She is trained in both adult and child/adolescent assessment and treatment within community mental health and healthcare settings.  She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, and a predoctoral internship at Kaiser Permanente in San Diego.  Prior to entering the field of clinical psychology, she studied political science; she holds an M.A. in political science from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in international relations from Stanford University. She meets CSUF's definition of a first-generation college student.
