Monta Vista does not endorse these programs. This a resource you can use as a starting point. Students and their parents/guardians are responsible for researching these programs thoroughly before signing up for any of them.
Your UNOFFICIAL transcript can be accessed through your student Infinite Campus Portal. If your program requires an OFFICIAL transcript, you will need to do the following:

Approximately 250 high school students -- makers, designers, DIYers, and original thinkers from all over the Bay Area and beyond will convene on CCA's Oakland campus and engage in an authentic art-college experience, including residing in CCA housing. You will immerse yourself in a college-level curriculum studying art, architecture, design, and creative writing as you discover what makes the San Francisco Bay Area so ideal.
California Scholastic Press Association Workshop-San Luis Obispo, CA
The CSPA Workshop is the longest-running and most successful high school journalism workshop in the country. Our graduates have gone on to work for the Los Angeles Times, the Orange County Register, Forbes, The Associated Press, ESPN, CBS, Fox and other nationally recognized media outlets.Each summer, 25 students are selected to receive hands-on instruction in the areas of print, broadcast, online and photojournalism, plus classes in ethics, public records and more. They will tour the local newspaper office and television station and enjoy an afternoon at the beach. this camp runs for 13 days and is held on the campus of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
Pre-College Art Experience Program —San Francisco, CA
Current high school students can take art and design courses at Academy of Art through an Academy-funded scholarship that covers application fees and tuition costs. UC Berkeley embARC Academy—Berkeley, CA
embARC students work on real design projects in a studio environment, and engage as genuine stakeholders and participants in a process to develop solutions to authentic urban planning questions. The program's three components together provide a comprehensive framework and multi-disciplinary approach to "placemaking."
SCU Young Scholars Program—Santa Clara, CA
Each year select, highly-motivated high school students explore the world of higher education in a five-week intensive program that includes university courses, advising, and meetings with key people on campus. In addition to college credit, students leave with a hands-on experience of college life. Arts and Humanities courses in: Art, Modern Languages and Literatures, and Religious Studies.

NYC Art and Design Summer Institute—New York, NY
Home to over 100 museums, a handful of the tallest skyscrapers in the world, and arguably the world's biggest Fashion Weeks, New York serves as an art, fashion, cultural and architectural capital. Students will develop a nuanced understanding of the social, political, and economic impact of art and fashion and how they fit into either (or both) of these industries.Academic work is supplemented by sessions on the business of the art and fashion industries, museum studies, art and social justice, and much more.
Design Immersion Days—Los Angeles, CA
Participants are offered the opportunity to explore careers in architecture and design or simply satisfy deep curiosities about how products, buildings, and environments are designed and made. The culmination of the DID program is a one-day comprehensive portfolio workshop, which is designed to introduce beginning design students to the concepts, techniques, and strategies necessary to complete a successful design portfolio.
Grammy Camp—Los Angeles, CA
GRAMMY Camp is a 5-day non-residential summer music industry program for high school students interested in having a career in music. Hosted on the campus of USC Thornton School of Music in Los Angeles, students from across the country apply for one of the eight offered career tracks. GRAMMY Camp faculty of music professionals as well as guest industry professionals provide valuable insight to give the campers the best chance at achieving success in their chosen career.
High School Summer Institute- St. Louis, MO
High School Summer Institutes combine traditional undergraduate class and lab curriculum with organized field trips, guest lectures, and small group activities in order for students to gain valuable academic and career experience. Institutes are divided into morning and afternoon sessions that include assigned readings, daily assignments, and a final project. High School Summer Institutes are noncredit, academic programs. All of our institutes are taught by Washington University affiliated instructors which include faculty, graduate students, post docs, and adjuncts. Topics include: Creative Writing, Global Leadership and Young Leaders.
Horizon Academic - Online
Horizon Academic is a trimester-long online research program for extraordinary high school students interested in doing undergraduate-level research. Our program is structured to advise students in selecting a topic, conducting research, and crafting a research manuscript under the individualized guidance of a professor or doctoral researcher from a globally renowned university. Students in Horizon Academic choose their own field of inquiry within one of the 15 subjects that we offer. After a trimester of reading, writing, and exploring, students finish their final projects, most often a 20 page research paper. By showcasing a student's very best work, Horizon gives students the opportunity to get letters of recommendation, seek outside recognition of the quality of their work, and demonstrate their exceptional talent to universities. Horizon Academic has always been conducted entirely online, and students complete research projects using desktop research methods, without the need to access any equipment or research facilities.
JCamp-
JCamp brings a multicultural group of high school students together for six days of intensive journalism training. Students will learn from professional journalists and get hands-on training in writing, photography, television broadcasting, online media, and reporting. Sessions and workshops will be led by experienced journalists from some of the top media companies in the industry. Students with a strong interest in broadcasting, newspapers, magazines, photojournalism or online media are encouraged to apply. The program is designed for high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors; since 2001, over 700 high school students have graduated from JCamp. Every year, AAJA receives hundreds of applications from all regions of the country. Students selected for the program have all costs covered including airfare, campus housing and meals.
NCSU Design Camp—Raleigh, NC
Design Camp is a multi–discipline pre-college design program organized by the NC State Design Lab for high school and middle school students. Held each summer, Design Camp informs students about the study of design and raises awareness of the impact of design on all aspects of our everyday lives.

Pre-College is immersive, rigorous, and FUN. All students are enrolled in a full-time program of immersions in the majors as well as courses in art and design fundamentals. Day 10 is devoted to a celebration showcasing student team solutions, announcing the awards and the presentation of graduation certificates.
Camp Biz Smart Accelerator—Santa Clara, CA
At the BizSmart Alumni Accelerator, self-motivated and directed “idea makers and world shakers” age 12 – 16 will test their entrepreneurial ability and start up knowledge in real world, “pop-up” simulations to bring their product to life and push their dreams into reality. Every year, through our Student Leaders program we help connect 225 community-minded high school juniors and seniors to employment, skills development and service. CHORI (Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute)— Oakland, CA
The objective of this program is to provide clinical research training opportunities for High School students. The focus is on opportunities for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, racial and ethnic minorities, and others who are underrepresented in the biomedical sciences (e.g., individuals with disabilities). The Program provides the students with a clinical research training experience to stimulate interest in pursuing a career in biomedical, clinical or behavioral research in a friendly and nurturing environment. The Summer Premed Program is a two-week program dedicated to fostering the interest of high school students toward careers in medicine. This program combines didactic lectures given by distinguished UC Irvine faculty members and hands-on workshops to provide a first-rate exposure to the medical field. All activities are geared toward an “insider’s look” at being a medical student.
USC 2 week Pre-Health—Los Angeles, CA
The 2-Week college immersion program offers high school students experience at the University of Southern California in a subject area of their choice. Courses are interactive, engaging and challenging, allowing students to explore new areas of study or build on their high school coursework. In this introduction to kinesiology and movement science course, you will learn about major scientific foundations of key domains including exercise physiology, biomechanics, and motor learning.
UTMB Biomedical Health Careers Academy—Galveston, TX

Students learn what it’s like to complete a real engineering project before attending college. Projects, tools, and equipment are similar to those used by universities and engineering companies. All projects involve the complete design cycle, with all the challenges, pitfalls, and rewards. Students can use program to prepare for technical clubs in high school/college.
Education Unlimited-Computer Camps—Stanford, CA
Web design and software programming are perhaps the most sought-after skills in this hi-tech era. For tech-savvy students who want a leg up in the competition by building critical computer skills early in life, or for students who just love gaming, design and logic, Education Unlimited’s Computer Camp offers hands-on instruction in both creative and practical computer skills.
Genomics Research Internship Program at Stanford: GRIPS- Stanford, CA
Stanford Center for Genomics and Personalized Medicine is a hub of interdisciplinary research in genomics with a goal towards improving human health. As part of our commitment to education, we offer a summer internship program to SF Bay Area High School students. Our Center has unofficially hosted dozens of students every summer since 2000. We formalized the process starting 2015 with the Gene Camp program. If you are a Bay Area High School student who wishes to learn more about genetics and genomics, please look through the information provided in Application Process and FAQ pages. Internships are offered in computational as well as laboratory sciences. We collaborate with multiple faculty members to find volunteer mentors. There is no charge to participate. Eligibility Requirements: SF Bay Area High School Students who are 16 or older by internship start date.
Microsoft High Tech Camp—
Microsoft is proud to offer technology programs specifically for youth. One of our signature programs, DigiGirlz High Tech Camp for girls, works to dispel stereotypes of the high-tech industry. We continue to look for opportunities to give young people a chance to experience, firsthand, what it is like to develop cutting-edge technology.
Science Internship Program UCSC—Santa Cruz, CA
Projects are designed by the mentors based on their own research interests, and they are quite different from any lab a high school student will do in a science class. Things may go wrong, the project may go down a new route, and the SIP intern’s result may end up disproving the initial hypothesis. But no matter what happens, the intern can be assured that she/he will wind up knowing something that no one knew before!

Tech Museum of Innovation-Volunteer—San Jose, CA
Each volunteer is a key component of The Tech’s mission to inspire the innovator in everyone. We do this through exhibits, content and programs that encourage hands-on learning. Volunteers are required to attend a 90-minute orientation session and, for those who volunteer in our galleries, a three-hour museum exhibits training session. We offer these sessions on the second and fourth Saturday of each month.
UC COSMOS—Santa Cruz, CA
COSMOS is an intensive four-week summer residential program for students who have demonstrated an aptitude for academic and professional careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects. Talented and motivated students completing grades 8-12 have the opportunity to work with renowned faculty, researchers and scientists in state-of-the-art facilities, while exploring advanced STEM topics far beyond the courses usually offered in California high schools.
UC Berkeley College of Chemistry Summer Youth Intensive Program (SYIP) - Berkeley, CA
The program entails 9-months of remote coaching from an assigned mentor in a faculty research group and a 4-week onsite internship in the assigned faculty research group is now accepting applications. SYIP is designed for the most accomplished high school students who are passionate about learning and doing scientific research in chemistry, biochemical engineering, material science, or related fields, and who are focused on maximizing their future success in college.
UC Berkeley Summer Chemistry Academy- Berkeley, CA
The Summer Chemistry Academy is a unique 2-week summer experience designed for motivated high school students entering grades 9 through 12 who are passionate about the chemical sciences and wish to excel their understanding of what college-level academics and life will be like. UC Davis Young Scholars Program- Davis, CA
Student must be 16 years old by start of program. Summer residential research program designed to expose approximately 40 high achieving high school students to the world of original research in the natural sciences with emphases on the biological, environmental and agricultural sciences. For current 10 & 11 grade students. Work one-on-one with research faculty and research groups in state of the art laboratories for six weeks. Each student will work on an individual project and prepare a journal-quality paper and symposium presentation about their work.
Unpaid Lab Placement— Stanford University, CA
All interns must be at least 16 years old to hold an internship or to be trained in a Stanford research or clinical setting where scientific research or instruction is conducted and where intern may be working with hazardous materials and/or be exposed to physical safety hazards. Minors interning in clerical or computational settings where no scientific research or instruction is conducted must be at least 14 years old. In both cases, a parent or guardian must approve the placement.

Boston Leadership-Biological Research—Wellesley, MA
Students conduct biological research and explore the extremely hot topic of synthetic biology in this award-winning summer pre-college program. Synthetic Biology is a new and exciting field in which engineers design genetic systems that can improve people’s lives.
For rising seniors. Spend six weeks at BU conducting university laboratory research with some of the nation's brightest scientific minds - and advance your knowledge and skills in the sciences. Embry Riddle Computer Engineering—Prescott, AZ
Students will also learn about printed circuit board design and fabrication, soldering surface mount components, and designing their own applications for the Arduino to be used in labs. Labs will consist of creating a prototype design on a breadboard, and verifying the design works using our state-of-the-art test and measurement equipment. This summer program will enable participants to take their interest in computer, electrical, and software engineering to the next level.
Frontiers at Worcester Polytechnic University- Worcester, MA
There are regular pre-college summer programs, and then there’s Frontiers. A residential, on-campus summer program that is challenging participants to explore the outer limits of their knowledge in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) with current laboratory techniques and exploring unsolved problems across a wide spectrum of disciplines. Garcia Summer Research Program- Stony Brook, NY
This is an intensive seven week program for gifted high school students which combines formal instruction with independent research and allows students to design original research projects with guidance from Garcia Center faculty, students, and staff. Students can continue during the academic year in the Mentor Program, which allows them to plan a research schedule with a faculty mentor throughout the year. Pre-arranged transportation and class schedules are coordinated with local school boards to enable students from a large geographical area to enroll in the program. Almost three hundred high school students have participated in the mentor program since its inception.

High School Summer Institute— St. Louis, MO
High School Summer Institutes combine traditional undergraduate class and lab curriculum with organized field trips, guest lectures, and small group activities in order for students to gain valuable academic and career experience. Institutes are divided into morning and afternoon sessions that include assigned readings, daily assignments, and a final project. High School Summer Institutes are noncredit, academic programs. All of our institutes are taught by Washington University affiliated instructors which include faculty, graduate students, post docs, and adjuncts. Topics include: Pre-Engineering, Environmental Studies, Philosophy, Neuroscience, and Psychology (PNP)
Horizon Academic - Online
Horizon Academic is a trimester-long online research program for extraordinary high school students interested in doing undergraduate-level research. Our program is structured to advise students in selecting a topic, conducting research, and crafting a research manuscript under the individualized guidance of a professor or doctoral researcher from a globally renowned university. Students in Horizon Academic choose their own field of inquiry within one of the 15 subjects that we offer. After a trimester of reading, writing, and exploring, students finish their final projects, most often a 20 page research paper. By showcasing a student's very best work, Horizon gives students the opportunity to get letters of recommendation, seek outside recognition of the quality of their work, and demonstrate their exceptional talent to universities. Horizon Academic has always been conducted entirely online, and students complete research projects using desktop research methods, without the need to access any equipment or research facilities.
Research Mentorship Program—Santa Barbara, CA
The Research Mentorship Program is a competitive, six-week summer program that engages qualified, high-achieving high school students from all over the world in interdisciplinary, hands-on, university-level research. Students will be paired up with a mentor (graduate student, postdoc, or faculty) and choose a research project from a large list of disciplines offered by the program each year.
Science and Engineering Research Academy—Santa Barbara, CA
The Science & Engineering Research Academy is a dynamic, 4-week residential and commuter summer program that introduces qualified high school students to the research enterprise through project-based, directed research in STEM-related fields. Students will take a 4-unit university course where they choose and develop a research topic specific to the track they select, under the direction of an instructor who is conducting active research in that field.
Students at SCSI will learn how to systematically approach problems like a computer scientist as they engage in classroom learning, hands-on lab activities, and collaborative guided research directed by college faculty and mentored by undergraduate research assistants. The Summer Computer Science Institute will culminate with the SCSI Research Symposium where students will demonstrate the results of their collaborative guided research project. In short, during their three weeks at SCSI, students have a similar experience to what Carleton undergraduates who eventually major in Computer Science receive as they begin their academic journey. Please note! Carleton requires a $500 deposit that is NOT refunded if you are accepted and choose not to attend.
